I got Xbox game pass recently as gift from a friend, and to be honest I am really impressed with quantity of quality games in this subscription especially when compared with the paid price (like last week they added Yakuza remastered collection, The medium, Control, Desperados 3)
So after thinking for a while I think its really pointless to pay nearly same price for humble monthly annual subscription, especially recently with humble monthly getting worse every month
I know some of you would want to play everything on steam, and I used to be like that, but after trying this game pass, I think u really could use this game pass to play so many good games with really cheap price especially single player games, and in the end u could buy the games that u really like or multiplayer ones on steam
Btw first month is for 1$ only then 10$ for every month after that month

P.S.: I am not working for Microsoft :3

I've already had it for over a year, and got another 3 months before I have to pay for it. It's a great deal if you are interested in the games and have time to play, but sadly it's been mostly a waste for me since friends are always dragging me into other games, so I rarely get to play single player stuff I'd like to play.

The one major advantage with it I've noticed above all else though... Is the ability to play many of those so called "Epic Exclusives".

Yeah that true also about some epic exclusives even though are so few right now

To be honest I had some issues with it to use it, didn't expect that though since I got 3 months code as gift from a friend but even with that they required a credit card, so I had to use a vpn and empty nearly expired card that I got from a cool guy on reddit, so it worked in the end with some effort
and to be honest I really liked the service in general
Btw remember to put your country as us or some European country in windows settings
For the vpn I use Windscripe I think its pretty secure and free ofc
it gives you 10 GB to use every month, (btw downloading games don't require the vpn)

Bought the 3 month for $1 deal and am enjoying it. Probably wouldn't sub at regular price, but you can get it for free through Microsoft rewards.

I use Steam mostly for indie games and multiplayer. Game Pass is great to get to know those AAA franchises, I mean, I'd never try Gears or Halo or Final Fantasy if not for Game Pass.

If you don't mind prepaying, you can get up to 36months of gold and upgrade it to ultimate cheaply. (I've prepaid for a year)

There is currently a Kelloggs/Pringles promotion running where one can get 2 months+ with a couple dollar purchase. When you activate a code it gives an extra 30 days if you enable recurring payment (you do that twice, make sure it's off, also turning off recurring after activation). Haven't tested EU myself, trying it on Monday.

EU:https://gaming.pringles.com/ Didn't work for me, maybe it doesn't work for EU, only got the 7 days, didn't ask to turn on recurring. Asked me to convert to ultimate, even though I was on that already. 1 code/day, maybe tomorrow.
US: https://www.kelloggsfamilyrewards.com/en_US/promotions/xbox-game-pass.html
Not sure about other regions.

Just remember to deactivate automatic billing if you're using promo codes and etc. I had Game Pass Gold Ultimate from a promo code (despite not having an xbox console) but the PC version is way cheaper.

Yeah I hated this thing, I had to put a credit card even though I got the code as gift from friend, anyway I put a nearly expired card just for that

Nah, it's best to go in your account page and cancel the recurring subscription charges. If your card expires and the charges are active, you won't be able to use Game Pass again before paying for that month. They don't just cancel your subscription when they can't charge your credit card.

If only it had Steam integration, dont get me wrong, I tried the service and is great but I reaaly like Steam plataform: achievements, cloud saves, discusssion hub, cards. If they ever integrate Game pass the same way EA Play is right now then I will pay it again, until then I will stick to Steam.

but the xbox app at least has achievements and i guess also cloud saves. I mean steam is superior but the xbox app is pretty decent still

Got your points but some time u have to sacrifice such stuff if u want to play AAA game with acceptable price not after 2-5 years of their release

I hate win 10, and don't have a console, so I haven't used--and have 0 plans to use--the code for the free month that i got in a recent HB monthly or some such.

Also, a 6-month sub to HB choice classic lasted me 12 months, and I "owned" everything I redeemed. I was able to give several games to my sibling. I take a long time to play games (2-3x the HLTB "long" time), and have a decent sized backlog. From what I have seen of the XBox service, chances are high that some higher-desired games would lapse before I finished playing them.

For example, HLTB the following for Dragon Age Origins:

Completionist
87 Hours

I have over 100 hours and have yet to leave Lothering or whatever the name of the city is where the city gets destroyed when you leave it, per the wiki.

Also, with poor internet, I do not like being reliant on an internet connection to play them, so Xbox Game Pass is a hard no if it requires this DRM.

In general, I abhor subscription services. I only use them when I have no choice. If Windows went to subscription-only for the OS, I'd move to Linux in about as many heartbeats as it took me to learn how. I refuse to use Office 365 for this reason and would rather stick with MS Office 07, or move to OpenOffice, LibreOffice, etc.

I did use my free months of origin and ubisoft's sub service, but I never gave them my CC. I used that month as essentially a mass-demo, i.e. to determine which games I wanted to buy later. Many of the games that I tried for 4 or so hours do not have a demo. So, yes, Ubisoft's premium free month saved me money, but would I have paid for that experience? No way.

YMMV

Yeah, I apologize if I came across too strongly. I do appreciate your bringing this to our attention, and I know it is a good fit for some (yourself included), but it just isn't for me.

Thank you.

Ah, yes, I was saying the bit at the end because I know my situation isn't applicable to everyone, and thus what in this case is better for me is worse for others, but I should have stated such.

I actually like the Xbox app, at least it has achievements and social stuff and it is very decent, at least compared to the very lacking of everything epic games store. sadly, gamepass isn't available in my country.

Just found about this, it seems its not available in so many countries
That's actually sad
To be honest I didn't notice this because I used a VPN :v

il be honest
i actually hate the game pass for pc "not cause it's bad" but because it doesn't actually work for me
I got gifted discord nitro in december which also gave me a code for like 3 months in game pass so i thought id try it out
i tried installing and it gave me an error, looked at multiple ways online to fix it or get past it and still got errors to the point that i just gave up
my country isn't supported, but i also tried using a VPN, but still same errors
So Steam is still the better option cause it works for mostly everyone

I had gamepass for PC gifted to me for a couple months and regret is badly.

Windows decided to make their DRM incredibly stupid, it creates hidden drives to install the games to, ones which you cannot easily access in the slightest. I had far too many issues relating to not being able to uninstall/update games because permissions went awry randomly, or even now, over a year after ending the sub, I'm still having issues with the hidden and locked down folders breaking on me.

Also the fact that you're just renting games, you don't own them at all. You need to go offline for a while and still want to play? nah. Want to mod them? nah. Want to change an options file? nah

Also didn't help that the xbox app kept constantly crashing on me

It's amazing, especially if you can find it for free or cheap somewhere.

I just finished Tell Me Why.
An underrated game by DONTNOD Entertainment.
While it's not the most innovative game, I really got emotionally invested in the story.
I would definitely recommend this game!

Before that, I was really hooked on Destiny 2.
The Xbox Game Streaming was far from perfect, but it really helped farming in this game.

I've been using it via the $1/3 months deal.

It's certainly been good value; I've played through a number of games which I might otherwise have bought (and in some cases regretted).. It's a shame it doesn't work through Steam Link, and doesn't seem to retain save games very well either.

Wasn't it $3/$5 per month not so long ago?

In any case - I mostly use humble monthly bundles for giveaways.
I have relatively little time to play game, so I prefer to play the best games from my backlog (before they're too old or I lose interest).
So I just finished RDR2 recently. Currently playing ELEX. And afterwards will play RE7, Wolfenstein 2 or Civ VI (with expansions) - not sure which exactly yet. But whichever I choose will take me a looong time to finish.
So the $10 per month will probably just be wasted for me...

P.S.
I heard Microsoft is a great company to work for.

Have you played the Gothic series games?
This is a new game (post-apocalyptic open-world RPG) from the same developers...

If "The Outer Worlds" answers the question: What Fallout 4 would look like if it was made by Obsidian?
Then "ELEX" answers the question: What would Fallout 4 look like if it was made by THQ Nordic?
