I've seen a few threads about this and I'm still a bit uncertain about two things.

Humble Bundle giftlinks seem like a great way to share with friends, trade or create Giveaways.
I've seen threads were problems occur when trying to redeem keys or not receiving an email with the giftlink.

So it seems it's better to create ("reveal") keys for giving to friends, trading or Giveaways?

Secondly, if keys are not created ("revealed") or giftlinks are not created, can the keys be lost or expire after an unknown period?

Thank you for your time and I appreciate any help the community can give me!

If the key expires, it is mentioned on the redeem page, like we got Overwatch, which expires this year's December.

where do you see Overwatch in Indie Bundle 20? And since when is Blizzard an Indie developer? :D

This one definitely had an expiration date:
Must be redeemed before December 31st, 2019.

Oops, I misread that as Overgrowth. Still weird to put an expiration date on sonething which has legitimately been bought and won't go bad on its own like groceries would for example.

in my experience, gift links are way more vulnerable to being stolen, but they offer you some amount of protection with Humble in case something goes wrong. i stopped generating gift links after a couple somehow got used before i ever sent them out. but, if you generate a raw key to give away and it doesn't work, then you have a problem with convincing humble that you aren't a trader or something like that. personally i've never had a problem with raw keys, just gift links, but gift links are technically safer in case something does go wrong.

if you decide to make a gift link, the best thing would be to generate the link right before handing it off to the winner, ideally through steam chat or something like that, so the link doesn't sit unused for very long

That's actually exactly what I did (create the link right before gifting it).

I was just wondering since some have claimed that unrevealed keys are unallocated and you could lose the game.

I always use gift links from Humble. If you're using Steamgifts for the giving, you can add the full Humble gift link to your giveaway right before you send it. I also wait until the last minute before generating the Humble link, as I have had gift links expire in the past (they were misplaced and stayed open for a long time, and ended up going bad).

I've had 5 year old purchases not revealed and never had any issues when I changed that.

Keys are safer, but resellers cough traders prefer gift links.

I always use the key option, but I also don't trade at all.
I've never had a key expire that didn't have a warning with an expiration date.
