I've dabbled a bit with Dota2 trading, but couldn't shake the feeling of sleaze for some reason. Ofc you want to get the best result from a trade, as in profit but idk. still felt sleazy. One time I even felt bad for getting a good deal, even though I knew the guy was paying way too much for what I was seling.
Then again, most ppl just care for the bottom line.

trading is great.
dont understand people who begrudge people who trade for profit... i mean something HAS to be in it for the trader to hold a game to be traded later, and the person recieving the trade is definately getting a great benefit... thats why i never understood people who MISS big deals, whinging that traders wont give them the exact same price that steam once sold the game at, which they missed. sure some people overprice, but thats their right. dont want to pay, walk away and find someone else :)

+1 i got a bunch of games from russians because it's much cheaper/the game is not sold here in germany (i bought 10x dead island and 3x dead island riptide for me and my friends because we simply can't buy it here). i also missed a few deals and bundles (yes, sometimes bundle contain games i wanna play xD) i traded a tf2 key for. a tf2 key for a bundle game is ofc profit for the trader but i didn't give a fuck because i made a great deal and the trader also did - everyone is happy.

You didn't miss anything not playing Lume - the game has "ok" puzzles, but I completed it under 60 min and the game has zero replay value.
If you want to play a nice indie point-n-click, get Puzzle Bots instead ;)

trading its from time to time work its not allways fun. And a trade its not allways good have nothing todo with money! Only with is the deal good for ME or not (i dont care it is a good deal for the other). This money words commes mostly from guys who want trade a cheap bundlegame against full games

He's talking about actual trading, not people reselling games for whatever reason. And in actual trading, it's not so obvious that profit is the sole reason. Mutual benefit, sure, but one-sided profit? Why? Trading is not dealing.

The sad thing is people actually do that. I never got into the trading thing but a friend of mine is. Somebody was mad he wouldn't trade Dark Souls for Saint's Row 3 which was practically free with that THQ bundle. Kept going on and on about how much of a value it was for a $105 game vs his $30 game or something like that. XD

it gives many reasons for trading but heh look you talking about but first i see you have a private profile so what you hidden then thats the first point i would not trade with you i dont see you have the game or how many games you have then your reputation. thats all points i look first before i trade so i understand a guy who not want trade keys with you to many scammers are out there and with a private Profile trade its absolutely a nogo

Also, you were trading a key. Keys are always risky because they might be used, duped, or stolen. Even if the key works today, it might not work tomorrow. Just look at how often people post in the SG forums about their game disappearing because Steam discovered the key was stolen and took it away.

I personally trade for profit, more so because I'm tight on funds.
I'll trade keys, gifts, etc to feed my gaming habit otherwise I have to bare with what I have. Thank god for the trading card update otherwise I wouldn't have anything to trade.
For instance I traded 5 dollars worth of games for a skyrim + 2 DLC, I then traded the Skyrim + 2 DLC for TF2 keys which I then sold on the market place for 30 or so dollars which I then used to buy some trading cards (wanted to get to level 10 before I started playing the TCG games) and then used the rest to buy games I want but don't have the money for.

A bit of them trade for games they want for them or because they cant get it in that region(rstriction, prizing), but the mayority portion just want profit, they want most demanded games at % max discount know or more but they offer them for the actual discount for new games to them or for more profit.
Then sometimes you will encounter adicted traders with 500+ games/gifts in his inventory and still bitching about 0.0x $ price in your trade and lastly when trading keys or money you find scammers with tons of pages of +rep in his fake profiles.

I really hate trading, the community is so.. weird. Yes, they only want profit. The only time I traded something was because I really wanted the game I got and had no money to buy it. I live on a lower price area for Steam (Brazil) but I really don't have the patience to abuse that.

It has always been so. A really good trade is when both parties profit from it, but some traders just attach some really low value to what the other sides trades, making the whole thing wrong at times.

I only trade to get games I cannot buy myself (eg: GFWL).
I doubt if Steam game trading can generate large profit. People can earn much more from doing actual works than trading digital games. So, imo, those who seek profit for Steam game trading most likely are young teenagers who do not have other sources of income.

Not really, Russians can profit a lot from games by buying games for lower and selling them for higher prices. And most games are not region locked. If Valve locks all games to one particular region, steam trading is going to take a massive hit.

Should I buy go home dinosaurs ? can I make profit ?
It seems that the price of all cards already has gone down... I would max get 1.25β¬ out of the 4 cards.

Sometimes, it feels like that.
I think, most of the traders want to take big advantages.
I'm not really a trader, i just want to change games to games i prefer more.
I don't care whether the game is $ 1 cheaper than the mine or not.
But most traders only accept TF2 keys, Paypal or tradeable gifts and most of my offers are declined.
Someone has wishlisted a game which i offered as a key. First, he accepted but then he also declined because it was a key. Does it matter if he wants to play it? Or isn't he really interessted in that game.
Why? Profit?
Recently, i was offering critical mass (even tradable!) for lume, because i would love to play lume.
The response was negative. Only cricital mass wouldn't be enough. I should add more. umpf!
What do you think about the whole trading business?
