So now that you've had tons of time to think it over, what do you think was the best game of 2011?

Mine was probably either Portal 2 or Skyrim... can't really decide. Yeah I know, boring choices.

If Skyrim didn't have so many little issues, and if they had perhaps focused on really fleshing out a few quests instead of bombarding you with lame ones it may have been a way better experience.

Thoughts?

Skyrim and Portal 2, but the best ... Skyrim.

Minecraft! (It was beta until 2011). Rayman Origins is great too (but we got it for PC in 2012, though). Skyrim wasn't so good for me, so I can't say it's a game of the year. Deus Ex: HR was unexpected really cool game. Portal 2... yea it was great one, but it's short. (thanks Valve for the free DLC anyway).

Hey, I'd vote Duke Nukem Game of the Year over Battlefield, Call of Duty, and Skyrim any day.

Nope, I just found it much more fun than any of those. I thought Battlefield 3 was utter bullcrap threw it in a bonfire after an hour of it's horrible gameplay, buggy programming, low graphics, and atrocious script.

Not that it would be GOTY for me (DEHR FTW), but it gave me tons of fun, which neither CoD nor BF3 could provide.

I would have to say DoDonPachi Resurrection, Dark Souls, Deus Ex, or Skyrim (although it had many issues).

The other thing I noticed besides dat ass, is that you won Portal twice, and that you don't even have it in your games list. Well, whatever..

Hard to define "best", but the games I played most were Faerie Solitaire and Everquest 2.

Um, Skyrim had more than little issues. The textures were subpar, voice acting was only slightly better than oblivion, character animations and scripting were terrible, and there were various glitches abundant throughout the game.

I would consider those to be little issues.

I played Oblivion, I kinda knew what I was getting into.

The texture issue eventually got adressed. As for the rest of your criticism those are the things that I would consider little issues as well. THe only bing issues I had were with some uncompletable quests that are slowly being adressed with patches. Due to the sheer size of the game I thinks it's anavoidable to have some of those issues in there. Having played Oblivion, I knew what to expect though and I was not disappointed.

You can place artificial limits on yourself in games to make them more fun, yknow?

So if you find you are so powerful in Skyrim that it's boring, use the crappiest weapons instead, or use no weapons, or intentionally skip parts or something.

Personally I think it's boring when you have a character who is the leader of every guild in the land, so I chose one and am avoiding the others. I will check them out in later playthroughs (which I may never get to).

I can't say any of the AAA titles stuck in my head, I wasn't impressed with Portal 2 or BF3 but I admit I didn't play Deus Ex, Batman AC and LA Noire yet. So I would go with huh...Bulletstorm for FPS game of the year and Anomaly Warzone Earth for all in all GOTY.

I haven't played it yet but I plan to.
