So here's the situation, I won a game, Warhammer 40000: Dawn Of War Winter Assault but instead of getting that, I got Warhammer 40000: Dawn Of War GOTY.

Did you already activate it?

Yes.

It was a key, so I only found out when I activated it.

Contact him. Ask for the promised key, or mark as not received. You did not receive the selected game, so you can freely mark it as non received.

Politely tell them that and ask if they have given the wrong key or something. If they don't manage to provide the right game, well, it's their problem- in that case you should mark it as not received.

Marking as not received doesn't seem warranted. The game he got was of equal value to what he thought he would get and the mistake was an easy one to make. The contributor has still given a game out of pocket. Forcing him to give another one because he clicked the wrong name seems a bit harsh. Just be glad you won something.

Not really. Dawn of War GOTY is a bundled game, Winter Assault is not. The "mistake" is probably intentional.

It's not intentional, my key was nammed Warhammer 40000: Dawn Of War, so i just fail dude...

If you DON'T mark it as not received, SG will assume you did receive it, and when it's not in your list of games on Steam, will assume you regifted it or traded it away. The rules state you must activate all won games on your account. If you mark it as received and it's not on your account you will get suspended

well she would get suspended if she marked as revived as she would not own the right game so it would look like she didn't activate her game

Doesn't matter. When you make a giveaway, it is your responsibility to pick the correct game. If you give someone the wrong key, that's your mistake, not theirs. The creator is responsible for providing the gift they promised. If he or she does not, then it should be marked "not received."

I agree with Zlia. This is a unfortunate situation but it's not your fault. Some people will say you should just mark it as received because you got a game, don't do that! You can get a ban because you didn't activate a win (Winter Assault not in your game list).

+1. You should talk to GA creator and if he can't provide right game mark GA as not received.

I know someone who very recently got a suspension because they received a game last year which wasn't 100% identical to the giveaway (they won painkiller X instead of painkiller Y) and they've now been suspended because steamgifts couldnt find the game they said they received in their inventory, which therefore means it was regifted, hence a suspension.

So yeah, mark as not received, or at some point down the line man up and take a few weeks suspension for it.

I don't remember if that's true (I think I read it once on Steam forum), but if it's Humble Bundle key, isn't Winter Assault buried somewhere in the main game's folder? They could have patched it out even if it was true at some point, but I'd like a confirmation if it was ever possible.

You shouldn't mark it as received, but they can deal with SteamGifts support for deleting the giveaway.

Don't mark it received. If you win a giveaway and then your account doesn't end up owning the game - that's suspicious and you could be banned for reselling gifts.

Tell the guy what's up. Either he then gives you the correct game, or he has the giveaway deleted (if that's possible at this point, I'm not sure).

If neither of these things happen you should mark it as not received eventually.

I had the same problem and I did not feel like leaving a not received mark, so I contacted support and they removed the giveaway.

This seems like the best option to me. Mark as received and make sure you don't get a ban for not activating your game.

yup. mistakes can happen sometimes

Nope, just don't mark anything, and create a support ticket. There is a difference between not leaving a not received mark, and marking it as received (by which you pretty much declare the giveaway to be legit).

Yes, this is exactly what I meant. Don't mark it as anything and contact support. They will delete the giveaway, the creator won't get any CV, but at the same time, you won't be damaging his/her received percentage.

If the giveaway is substanstially legit and made in good faith, I think one might as well mark is as such. Obviously, like I tried to state before, the recipient should be clear of any liability.

Substantially legit, yet you don't receive the right game.

That will be fun, having all your forthcoming wins asked to be rerolled at first, and hopefully declined by support.

So no, I don't think that's great advice to give to be honest.

It was not necessarily meant as advice. It was my opinion of how things should be.

Why would future wins be asked to be rerolled at first, anyway?

1 decade ago
Permalink

A lot of people will ask for a reroll if they see a previous win that has not been activated on the winner's account.

I see. Sometimes I forget the amount of police work that goes on here.

Not only a re-roll, but most will also report the user in question, so why risk getting yourself banned for someone else's mistake?

don't mark it as recieved because i had a similiar issue and i got suspended for not activating the gift i won

I think he did it on purpose because the game hegave you is bundled and the one he selected isn't bundled so he can overpass the 30.00 CV Bundle Limit

Mark it as not received and move on.

Mark it as unreceived, and try to contact him.

Worst that can happen is someone finding it weird that you won the same game twice.

The problem is: If he marks it as received HE will get suspended for not activating a gift. He shouldn't be punished for mistake someone else made.
