Hey friends. I'm looking for some great horror novels to read. I've read a lot of Lovecraft, Edgar Alan Poe, and Harlan Ellison. Please, tell me what else I should read. Thanks!

Oh man, I read all of those when I was a kid. Attack of the Mutant was my favorite.

Cirque du Freak: The Saga of Darren Shan. It has twelve books in total. If you are interested in Vampires and stuff. ;)

Yes! Good call. I recently read Chiliad: A Meditation and I was just blown away by the style of the book.

Not particularly horror, but Richard Matheson has really good creepy books, "I am Legend" is a MUST

Other titles "A Stir of Echoes", "Hell House"

+1
I am legend is amazing. I usually don't read books after watching the movie adaptation, but I am glad I read this one. Very different from the movie.

And better in every aspect... The first half of the movie is decent.

"The Girl Next Door" by Jack Ketchum

I also agree with those who recommended "IT" and "Ring", great reads.

I'm not to well versed in horror, but Leviathan Wakes is a great sci fi novel with elements of horror all over the place.

The book version of Exorcist is actually really good.

From my recent reading I can reccomend The Long Walk by King. Not your everyday horror but this book should stay with you long after reading this. Also The Girl Next Door by Ketchum. Even harder than The Long Walk.

Keep in mind that this books aren't 'light' and you shouldn't approach them as a joke, or a adventure to see some bad things happening to people. As always I will sugest a little faith in your bros - don't check reviews, because they might destroy some fun. I prefer my books being a mystery for me from first page.

EDIT: I guess you have read that already but I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream is a always a good choice

You Sir have good taste. I have read every single book, novel, poem and article written by Lovecraft and Poe.
Speaking about Lovecraft, you may want to try reading Ramsey Campbell, especially his Cthulhu Mythos tales from the early '60s.

That does sound interesting. I dig anything related to the mythos.

  • Stephen King - It's true that not all of his books are great. I recommend you to read Gerald's Game, Dolores Claiborne, Christine, Just After Sunset.
  • Dean Koontz - I liked The Bad Place, Midnight, The House of Thunder.
  • John Saul - Suffer the Children, Comes The Blind Fury. He has a thing with dead children's ghosts.
  • Serge Brussolo - Iceberg. It's kinda hard to find his books translated into English.
  • Chuck Palahniuk - His books are more satire and dark comedy. You can give it a try and read Haunted (gets pretty disgusting) or Invisible Monsters.

Chuck Palahniuk is one of my favorite authors. I didn't mention him because like you said it's more like dark satire. Although, Lullaby is a pretty creepy book.

Well, I couldn't read Stephen King's longer stories, but I read Four Past Midnight, and although I enjoyed most stories, I liked The Sun Dog a lot. The story was amazing, and had a few twists. It isn't long, but it's worth the time.
