Another Xbox Game Pass price increase is "inevitable," says Phil Spencer

"While discussing Xbox Game Pass, Xbox boss Phil Spencer explained that he thinks it's "inevitable" that we'll see the price go up again in the future.

"First, we always want to give you options in how you build your library. You can subscribe to Game Pass and play, or you can purchase the game," Spencer said to Game Watch (thanks, Wccftech). "Currently, millions of users have subscribed to Xbox Game Pass, and many of them are satisfied with using it. Although the main premise is to provide more value, the price is I think it is inevitable that it will rise in the future. We recently raised our prices once, but the decision was made after careful consideration. We believe it is important to provide services that are recognized as being of sufficient value even if prices are increased."

Most recently, we saw Xbox Game Pass prices go up in August, with Xbox Game Pass subscriptions going from $9.99 / £7.99 / €9.99 per month to $10.99 / £8.99 / €10.99 per month and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions going up from $14.99 / £10.99 / €12.99 per month to $16.99 / £12.99 / €14.99 per month. 2023 also saw a price increase for Xbox first-party games with Starfield, Forza Motorsport, and Redfall priced at around $70.

In a poll on the subject, most of you voted to say that the Xbox Game Pass price increase wouldn't be enough to deter you from the service, so it'll be interesting to see whether the quantity and quality of all the upcoming Game Pass games) continues to offset any price increases."
