just curious: Do you mean the parrot drones? or what?

hahahahahha... saying "you better learn some respect asap" to someone definitely older than you... definition of retardation?
Comment has been collapsed.
I got no hint of disrespect form meatee in any of his responses so far... as for the other thing... deduction? i dunno.
Comment has been collapsed.
people do retarded things all the time. No one is an exception. pointing out retardation shouldnt be considered rough, but a learning experience for all. Now calling someone retarded would be farelly "rough". not as rough as killing them and their family tho... but sill rough lol
Comment has been collapsed.
hahhaha, googled that just a few minutes after posting but didnt wanna edit yolo, english isnt my native... good to know tho. as for the retardation/retard thing... ok?
Comment has been collapsed.
Please restrain yourself from using words you cant possibly understand
Respect doesnt come with age, so that comment just backfired, if there is anyone to whom that slang could be applied on, that one is you
Not only that, you also been disrespectful as well
Comment has been collapsed.
Well the main point of it is that I think your primary conclusion was incorrect and, as I've said, in my opinion being polite and having respect for others has nothing to do with age so there was no reason for saying what you've said in the first place, let alone the use of such strong language. You could have said " a blunder", "a silly thing to say" or anything like that if your intention was not to insult him.
But then again, it might be just me and my sensitivity to the use of strong language and mentioning mental and/or physical disabilities out of context. Though, for some reason, I think what you've said would have been interpreted as an insult by most.

ur rught... twould be a looong jurney if a responded to everything i didnt read, lol
Comment has been collapsed.
i don't know about that but i don't get how being illegal has anything to do with how mature or immature a joke is.
Comment has been collapsed.
You mean like the outer limits?
If you take what someone says that serious, you might need to seek help as you have issues with sensitivity
Go ahead blacklist me though i am fresh out of your momma jokes but i can say
Man who runs in front of car gets tired.
Shit did i pass the age check?
Comment has been collapsed.
Actually most time i do not even bother with the thanks as people like to even blacklist for that.
Respect for elders? because someone said a joke? well i guess we have different views on that, for me respect it earned,it is not given.
Though there is a difference from being respectful and earning respect, see anyone can be nice, for me that does not grant you all out pass to respect, holding a door for someone, saying thanks you and stuff should be part of everyday life.
Respect for me is someone who is there to help me when i need it,someone who cares for others, someone who gives in times of needs, someone who puts others before them.
Older people need to get off there high horse and quit demanding respect just because they are older, life is about give and take, not about i am older you need to treat me like i am special.I do not care how old someone is,they earn my respect they do not just get it because they are older.
I treat everyone the same regardless of age,but i do get why some people would feel a bit disrespected by a joke, given the context of it,but a momma joke is not going to tip me over the respect scale, racial joke or other wise would but not a stupid momma joke.
Comment has been collapsed.
obviously we are not at the same page here, sorry to disappoint you but for me saying "thanks" is not that big of a deal but joke about it, is...
just like the "holding the door for someone" situation, basic respect, no one would just wait and push the door to hurt you but maybe most would just leave
the small things make the difference
now if you excuse me i'm gonna sleep, feel free to disagree as much as you want or just "mama joke" me, i promise to not blacklist you ;P
Comment has been collapsed.
you better learn to chill. blacklisting someone because you don't like his kind of humor... come on... ^^
Comment has been collapsed.
To be honest, I would only do such a joke if I knew someone. If you would insult someones mother around where I live you'd get into a fistfight real fast. We had several brawls on the school yard back in the day because of that shit and you made that joke in a giveaway. Great way of showing appreciation, buddy.

I haven't watched VEEP (I pick a smaller selection of series and watch them completely). Clay Davis was definitely a fun (albiet highly exaggerated) character and certainly memorable. I know nothing about VEEP, but a quick wiki skim shows it is based on The Thick of It, which is described as a modern Yes Minister (a show I certainly enjoyed). Have you watched The Thick of It? And if so, which gets your recommendation for viewing if I have time?
Comment has been collapsed.
Your enjoyment of it may very well correspond to how cynical and pessimistic you are about politicians, the political system in general, and your threshold for biting, caustic remarks. Personally I loved both TTOI and VEEP, although the former can be a bit arcane since it's about the modern British political system which is not my forte.
Comment has been collapsed.
If you haven't already, watch Yes Minister. A classic bit of dry British political satire that will tickle your inner cynic. And I prefer British political satire to American, simply because it's making fun of someone else's sorry plight instead of my own (and I'm familiar enough with British society/politics to follow the humor)

Well if all it takes to insult someone is saying an insult no wonder this world is full of people who want to shoot shit up,they are just words nothing more, since when can words do harm, does not anyone teach people not to take what others say serious?
I mean come on when do we draw the line and learn what people say should not matter,i just laugh at them, and that just pisses them off even more.I never got in a fight over someone calling my mom names, they are just words, maybe my mom raised me to be above the influence of others insults
Comment has been collapsed.
You laugh at them? For insulting your mother? I have nothing too say, you're punished enough with this attitude.
Comment has been collapsed.
nobody seriously insults anyone's mother with a yo mamma yoke.
Comment has been collapsed.
I understand your point but like I said, this is something people become offended about because they have such a deep respect for their mothers.
If you said the "n-word" or made an anti-semitic statement people would still feel that it's highly inappropriate even when it is ironic or sarcastic. It's an extrem comparison but I think it makes it clear what I mean.
Edit: And yes, "yo mamma" jokes are probably the lightest form of insult but still people will question your respect for them. It's something you can do with good friends but not with a stranger, not even on the internet imo.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well it just how i feel others can feel as they want,i am not saying that those who are offended are wrong either i just do not see the point in getting worked up over simple words and stupid insults, that is why people say them, they want to get under your skin and i will not let that happen.
But how am i punished for my attitude just because i do not let people get to me over stupid things like insults and momma jokes,i chose to ignore those people and move on,that is not a punishment,me ignoring others insults and such is not an attitude thing it is a choice.
So if i have a poor attitude for ignoring idiots, then so be it,there are no different then ignoring a internet troll,if someone feels the need to defend someone honor over a stupid insult and wants to play right into there hands.Getting in there face or calling them names back or other wise responding to them is no better then them talking shit to get me to respond as that is there goal to piss you off and laugh at you while doing it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Internet trolls are nothing to be worked up about, I was talking about confrontation in real life. I once was where you are right now and ignored everyone that felt like talking shit, but to be honest I regret all the times I haven't said anything back or just straight up punched them in the face. Right now I rather choose to be respected and if someone feels different about it I will tell them to do so or gtfo. Of course I don't beat people up, but I'll tell them to cut the shit and it worked so far.
When you really have no reaction to anything anyone says to you, good for you. Seriously.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well life is to short to waste my time and air or energy on someone else who has nothing better to do then be stupid.I do have my limits though when people get in my face i will do something about it,or if they are say messing with a kid or someone who has a disability and such, but as far what is aimed towards me,yeah i do not let it bother me.I use to be the guy who would speak up and i would do shit in return, but that just made me someone i did not want to be.i ended up not being any better then the idiot who started so i saw that i was just a hypocrite by saying yeah i do not like what you say or do,but in turn i just ended up being them as i would tell them to fuck off and other shit so how was i any better then the idiot insulting me.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think you probably have something against confrontation in general, because I don't think you are like them when you only react and don't start something out of nothing.
I'm just following the basic rule that when someone's nice to me, I'm nice to them. If not, measured on what they've done, I will be pretty mean.
Life's too short, just like you said, and while you decided to tone it down I did the opposite, but we have different motivations.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's clearly the issue at hand. It looks as though I underestimated the level of severity of the "yo mamma" joke in other countries.
Where I'm from, there are two distinct forms: a harmless "yo mamma" joke, and a true insult to someone's mother. The first is seen purely as a silly response, while the other would most likely incite violence. It seems some cultures do not have a distinction between the two.
Comment has been collapsed.
If you really want to, logging out of your Steamgifts account will give you access to view a giveaway page even though you are blacklisted.
Comment has been collapsed.
well, tbh... getting blacklisted by someone isnt really that severe xD
Comment has been collapsed.
of course that happened, i would be ok with it, but i dont find it particularly funny either.
You should know how serious and over sensitive some people here are, i was on the verge of being blacklisted for way smaller things then that, not that it matters.
Comment has been collapsed.
I don't know if I've ever heard a "yo mamma" joke in real life. No one would dare say something like that in polite company. No one I know would ever dream of saying something like that as it would be basically begging for excommunication from any group you're in.
It's not that people in Croatia are overly sensitive to that stuff, it's just that it's bad manners to say anything wrong about a person's family. Even as a joke, yes.
I can say whatever I want about my family, but no one else is allowed to say bad things about them. The only situation when people might offer their opinion on the matter is if you ask them, and only if you're very close.
In the Hereticals (group) we're supposed to insult each other and once I considered telling such a joke but in the end I just couldn't. There are lines you just don't cross, even when everyone knows that it's a joke.
Your situation is a bit worse as the OP of the gibs couldn't have know that it was a joke. We all now know it was but, in my opinion, it was still in poor taste.
That's the thing about the web, different cultures all mixed up in one place and you never can be sure how people might react to some thins so it's better to tread on the side of caution :)
Comment has been collapsed.
In this context, the joke is not actually meant to be a true statement about someone's family. It's purely rhetorical. There is a very distinct difference between a joke statement like "your mom is my favorite animal" (which is quite nonsensical anyway), and actually insulting someone's mother.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well I too was talking about joking.
A statement meant as an insult about one's family is, naturally even worse and met with far worse consequences.
Please, keep in mind that I'm not judging you the least bit and that I do get what you meant by your joke and that you didn't expect for it to be taken seriously but that's why I said:
That's the thing about the web, different cultures all mixed up in one place and you never can be sure how people might react to some thins so it's better to tread on the side of caution :)
Comment has been collapsed.
I would take it as an offhand comment and bad joke unless there was some indication that it was meant to be insulting. Perhaps the person felt you didn't take the question seriously and therefore didn't really take the time to read the giveaway description.
Comment has been collapsed.
They probably weren't insulted by the joke, more from the lack of imagination. Yo mamma jokes are consistent with lack of imagination and a lack of effort.
Comment has been collapsed.
It could be a regional thing. I've lived some places where 'yo momma' jokes are common and people don't take them too seriously unless they are a real arsehole. Other places people don't have that familiarity and can be far more offended. Humour isn't always universal on the global interwebs.
For me personally it would have been borderline, but I'd probably only have blacklisted you if I'd drunk more than a third of a bottle of scotch.
Comment has been collapsed.
the context people. context is everything. it was clearly not the place for a yo mama joke. your joke turned into an insult on that person's eyes clearly. i don't know how i would react but i know i wouldn't like someone to call my mother an animal.
Comment has been collapsed.
yes, context is everything. and on top of that it's completely subjective. you say it was "clearly not the place" for this kind of joke. i disagree. although i don't find it too funny, i don't see how a stupid question like that is supposed to produce only serious answers, and how there are no jokes allowed. SG is full of cheap jokes. you are active in the forum, you should know that. ;) i just don't see how this joke is any different from what i see in other giveaways and threads. so to me it's absolutely not clear that there were no jokes allowed in this case.
Comment has been collapsed.
i didn't say "it was clearly not the place" because i think it was not the place. as you can see from "i don't know how i would react", i don't care enough to decide what i would do in that case. i said "it was clearly not the place", because giveaway creator blaclisted op. i just got a conclusion out of it. so yes, it's subjective. but your opinion or mine don't matter sh*t. it's all about how giveaway creator thinks and reacts. once it's done, we can only observe it.
Comment has been collapsed.
so something like common sense doesn't exist? and we can never behave correctly, because we are never able to predict how someone reacts? sounds like chaos to me. well, i guess you're right. this is the internet after all. xD
Comment has been collapsed.
you talk about common sense and you say it's okay to insult mothers? ._.
all of the jokes and all kinds of humor are not global. gotta deal with it. i don't know about you but common sense is whispering to my ears to make jokes on sensitive subjects to only friends or at least people i know. not to strangers. i guess there are two kinds of common sense. common sense is not much "common" anymore i guess, ay? ._.

Technically, everyone's an animal, but y'know, details!

+1 to charisma skill
but yea avoid pissing people off since you got off lucky I pissed off someone begging on forums and he marked me negative feedback saying I added him and tried to scam him and awaiting a support member of SG to contact me since steam records all adds even if you remove them from friends so I need to wait to prove he's full of manure.

does blacklist prevents you for joining public giveaways that the person who blacklisted you makes?
Comment has been collapsed.
There's a time and a place for everything though I have yet to find where a "your momma" joke fits. Depending on the context it can be taken as an insult so if that's how the person who blacklisted you felt then it was his right to do so. Personally, I haven't used the phrase since I was in grade school.

Seriously....These "Yo mama" jokes aren't funny.I'm not being aggressive or anti-sarcastic.However,At least show some respect to a lady who is most likely twice your age or worse....she might be even dead That'd be offensive to that guy for sure or reminds him of one of the saddest memories in the HUMAN life.

... for a "yo mamma" joke, haha!
The description in the giveaway said "What's your favorite animal?" so they kinda asked for it.
I guess some people can't take a joke :)
