What a horrible event and a waste of bandwidth for those who actually downloaded the games.

I did and it was a nice chance to play some new games. How exactly it as a terrible event?

I felt it was terrible because you couldn't play all the games that qualified, timezones made it more difficult for non-Americans to do their tasks on time (I missed the first day because I was sleeping/working) and because you couldn't really get into a game before having to move on to the next, at least for the longer ones. Finally, the event was ill-prepared because many people couldn't even play their first game on Steam because it had been removed (MMOs?) or blocked from their region when it wasn't when they had first played it (that's why the number of required tasks for level 3 was reduced during the event).
But the worst thing for me was the fact that once you'd missed a day, there was nothing to do to get those tasks done despite Steam nagging you to complete more tasks when you actually couldn't.
But I'm only speaking for myself. If you got enjoyment out of it, great for you!

Ehm, the entire world had 24 hours per cycle. That's how timezones work.

Personally, most "free" event games I already owned, just launched them and fine. For the others I dl'ed the ones that seemed the least interesting to me, tried them out, and if they indeed annoyed me, I idled their cards and uninstall. No waste of time. Tried Castle Crasher a bit, meh meh.

Overall, the best Steam event since the clicker game.

I am sure he intented with the timezone the fact that it starts, at least in germany, at 8 PM. When you need to downloaded a bigger game and/or have a bad connection speed then you are not more able to finish that download and play before you must go to sleep and at the next day you can only jump into it after the work. At least in germany, that is mostly 4 - 6 PM. When you have 3 games to do you can have a problem from that facts.

In the USA you had the advantage that it fits more to the times you are at home/don't sleep.
How it was for the rest of the world i don't know.

They can't set it for all to a "good time" and so a part are not so happy as other ones.
All in all nothing "big".

7PM actually.
If one of the tasks ("nostalgia") was a big game you had 4 days to dl it. The 2 'random from library' you could pick small ones (I did). Leaving just the free ones for a long download session. For me the only big dl was Dead By Daylight. Don't starve is small. Tyranny was installed already but Left 4 Dead is small. Played Castle Crasher last day which was another small download. Does seem they did think a bit about small dl's expect for the first day.

They give each one different Games to choose from. I had parts with only big Games and parts with small and big mixed.
Your small counts are not all small for me.
I have as example 320KB/s. download speed (when i don't do anything else). So there is the "small" L4D(2) a thing of ~5 hours.
A part of the games were to big to download it in 1 day (my luck was that i had a lot installed or saved -so i needed only the updates and/or added DLC's-)

But you are not supposed to finish the entire game in just 24h. You will play it for a bit and if you like it keep playing when the event is over. I already finished the first game i purchased and now i will keep playing the other games that caught my eye.
