I played the free weekend, well some of it. I tried a Witch Doctor, and a Wizard...

I don't like it. I liked how Diablo 2 did the skills. I don't like being limited to what i can and can't put on my right and left click....

I don't know maybe it's just one of those things I'll get over but it just really bothers me right now.

Anyone else?

EDIT : I've tried the monk, wizard, witch doctor and demon hunter. So far the Demon Hunter is the only class I like. I guess I'm so used to be able to build my character both with stat points and skills. Versus now, the stats are automatic and the skills are very limited. I don't remember which character but they didn't even tell me how much damage it did. So I can't compare it to anything else besides watching the floating damage. Which is silly. It's obvious that they simplified the game so they can reach a wider audience and I assume eventually release on it on consoles. I've lost faith in Blizzard. Once Activison bought them I was worried, then they split StarCraft 2 into 3 games. Now this.... Not happy at all. :\

I also played just on this weekend beta. I played the barbarian one but there wasn't much to do but right or left click. Its hard to tell though because after about 30mins play I killed that skeleton king and it said "You finished the beta". Way too short to judge it as I didn't play the other two.

I already have this game from the annual pass so I'm going to play it regardless as I havent played wow since last year so I'll be trying to get my money's worth.

No.

In a way it is and this has been discussed over at Blizzards forums in great detail.
The trouble is, that someone who is willing to spend money on the real money auction house can always have the best equipment, unlimited gold and such.
It is like buying gold or items in WOW from Chinese dudes, only now Blizzards made it a legit part of the game.
It is debatable, if this can be considered P2W.

it has auction, so if you find good you can sell it for real money

However, it should be worth noting that to put an item up to the auction, you will have to put a deposit to do so. Think of it like Ebay's fees for placing an item up for auction.

Is calling people "young" the new little internet default insult to be thrown around nowadays to discriminate someone? So many people misusing that, it's getting annoying.

Some people never played Diablo, doesn't mean they're young.

why are you insulted by it? most people take it as a compliment. i think he just means he's guessing alot of people were too young to remember or have played it. i never played diablo 1 or 2 but im not young.

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm not insulted by it in any mean. I'm annoyed by how I see that word getting thrown about over here as a pejorative term, which is by itself just freaking stupid. There was a another thread over here where some guy enjoyed a set of titles in a game bundle and people proceeded to call him "young or dumb".

While the word itself isn't offensive depends a lot how you use it, most of the time that word is used here (in the internet) to tell someone that is ignorant, reckless or dumb.

Age has some influence but isn't determinant in if you have played a good game or not, in example:

I was born in 1990 yet i grew up playing Donkey Kong and mario (1981 & 1983) and yesterday I played for first time a gothic game, playing gothic 1 right now (those controls!)

Diablo 2 wasn't that great, the first map mission was ok, but the story really never interested me, the dessert level, map or how you call it was excruciating.

IMO Titan Quest is better, just because you have more choices in your skills and the greek mythology was a nice theme

titan quest is nice game, tho i couldnt make myself to play it again on bigger difficulty or with other skills, dunno why but it's not as fun to play again as Diablo 2 was, and i still after so many years like to play diablo 2 from time to time.

I haven't played D2 (was an EQ nerd at the time) but I do like Titan Quest as well. The dual spec choices were really cool and the lore was definitely awesome. The thing I thought was really missing from the game was a strong centralized story, it seems that D3 at least has that.

Anyways, excited for the hack'n'slash that the Titan Quest guys are doing? :>

well since my PC it's really limited right now I'm just playing old RPG's (Gothic 1) and indie dungeon crawler (Hack, Slash and Loot) and the occasional play on Killing Floor.

I wanted to buy Mont & Blade complete (just interested in the first and warband) but my boss hasn't payed me (should have payed me 5 days ago) and the 75% off it's almost over :( I was exited because it's a game I can run (like killing floor, all in minimum) but looks like I won't have the chance to play D:

TL;DR: Not playing Hack'n'Slash, just RPGs :)

I tested it and it was what I expected it to be, didn't feel like a Diablo at all. It's too polished and with all those achievements/guiding arrows/pinpoints and so on, to me it's one big release along with those call of duties etc. If I actually wanted to buy this, I wouldn't do it because it's the long waited "Diablo 3", just another expensive game. There are plenty of better titles to be released if I wanted to play any such game.

Wasn't impressed either. Too simplified from the beta I downloaded a while ago. Not terrible just far too...simple, not enough rpg or rts. Of course, no one's surprised, or at least no one should be. Blizzard found success by reaching out to the more general playerbase (the "casuals" as we know them), so it'd be stupid of them not to go for it again. Still, my friends seemed like they had fun so who knows, we'll find out a couple months after it releases. Everyone worshiped SWToR like a god but now they've lost and are still losing subs like no tomorrow according to their reports.

Agree, Torchlight 2 will probably be the hit or miss for true fans of the RTS-RPG genre.

You gotta remember, Diablo has always been a very story driven game, and this is only 1/4 of the first act. Once the full game comes out, you'll have access to the full story (if you end up buying it), which should give you a lot more fun.

You can put anything on any of the action bars, when you click to select what ability, press the left or right arrow button to go to the previous/next category. On my Monk, I have two primary abilities on the mouse. One on each button, just by doing what I posted before

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Lawl @ very story driven. It basically...basically? It bloody has the same concept as Doom. You are here to kill the most evil of them all in hell. The concept is also the same, fight through hordes of enemies to reach your goal (well the original 2 Doom games until the fucked up the third one, ironic eh?)

The game is hack and slash combat and random loot. Story is a backdrop, in no way Diablo considered a story driven game when it launched. It just had a cool theme and good D&D dungeon raiding in multiplayer.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Idk what games you've been playing, but Doom and Diablo are entirely different, except that they both contain demonic imagery. Diablo actually does have some story in it, via quests and cutscenes, whereas Doom had nothing like that. But hey, to each their own biased opinion.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The story was just cinematics between acts, otherwise you just run, kill, loot, sell. Quests weren't good written aswell.
In D3 the added some lorebase and voiced quests, but again its not the main source of fun in this game. Most of the people get fun when the get good loot.

I havent played much of it (used a demon hunter and felt a bit like mario in slow mo with that low attk speed), but to be honest i can't complain much about the use of skills so far (granted i havent played Diablo II for a long time either).

It didn't really feel like increased difficulty doing 2 player co-op compared to single player. Co-op is more enjoyable though, that's for sure. I've never played Diablo 2, so I can't compare to that, but I do find it more enjoyable than Torchlight so far anyway.

I'm interested in the selling junk for money, anytime I can profit by playing games is always a bonus. I wish I got to try more, but it seemed too short of a test phase to really get a feel for classes abilities and stuff. Hopefully there's a ton more content on release.

Having frequent login issues, occasional disconnections in-game and moderate lag (latency seems stable around 280ms).
Having said issues playing solo is.. annoying.

Hopefully someone will create a local server emulator (or something) so that people playing solo on poor connections won't have to worry about issues like that.

Bought Diablo at launch, wasn't crazy about it and only played it a little. Bought Diablo2 at launch, same. I watched my friend playing the D3 beta about a month ago and it didn't interest me so I'm going to have to pass. I'm not going to try the open beta this weekend. Oddly enough I like Torchlight though. I haven't seen Torchlight 2 yet but based on past experience I'd have to say that one. As others have mentioned I don't like the whole idea of an in-game auction house in D3 or having to pay for the best equipment. I tried that in Spiral Knights and ended up just walking away from it. Never again.

Someone here said it was dumbed down for 360 port. Does that mean I might be able to use my xbox controller to play on pc? I'd much rather control where i move than point the mouse.

Also, with the buying gear for real money. I've been lead to believe there is an end to Diablo3 so why would people want to buy items that you can't use after you finish?

1 decade ago

You can re-play the game again after you finish it. With each finish opening up a more difficult setting (Normal, Nightmare, Hell). Along with the multiplayer, it's the leveling up and item collecting that people play again after finishing it.
