Does anyone else feel that s.gifts group giveaways get just as many entries as they would if they we're public?

The main difference I see is that they are treated as private giveaways where they are policed differently compared to public giveaways

From what I've seen, the people who enter in the s.gifts group giveaways tally up to approximately half the total of a normal public giveaway.

I also find it a bit strange that it isn't more than half.

Well I suppose that the majority who aren't already associated with the s.gifts group giveaways are here purely for the given opportunity of winning a free game. Therefore, they would have no significant reason to be involved with the community what so ever; because in order to join the s.gifts group or any group at all, it would require a little effort, something a large amount of people would find to be senseless anyway.

I think thats why now u see more privates and more closed groups giveaways than we used to see. Now I see (in the winners section) 2 - 3 public, 4 - 5 group (private group most of the times), 2 - 3 private.

Times are different, specially getting almost 10k members per month now =O

Wait, what? So you are saying that we have 10 thousand new users per month?

That's about right. It's more than that, now, I think.

I think that's why some people just make private giveaways and post them on the forums or in the Steamgifts' chat on Steam. It eliminates many of the people who have just joined the group and limits it to more community minded members.

The S.Gifts group giveaways just gets people who doesn't like to be social out of them. Basically it is a public but with 10% less people.

10%? Wouldn't be that much less.

I think the steam group only giveaways are for those that don't want 10,000 random people who never participate in any way other than to enter giveaways to be able to enter every giveaway.

Oh and I would like to someday see a way to submit giveaways that have criteria.
i.e. have given away $25 + in games, or 100+ comments etc..

i like that idea, but i wouldn't like it if people could set criteria such as hasn't won anything yet. stuff like how much you've given away or how many comments you've posted are totally within your control and i think participation should be rewarded, but luck should not be punished (not that you suggested it should).

^ This right here, everyone. It encourages people to join their steam group, and even though it is public many people don't seem to join. If there are tens of thousands less on their open steam group, then they're just missing out on their chances and improving ours. Nothing wrong with that, it's their choice.

Private groups that set demands and require activity are the way to go.
