What you're doing is putting the link to the place it was uploaded, and not the image itself (usually should end in .gif, .jpg, .png, etc). Yirg is correct, that's the link you should be getting to. There's probably some other method to this, but the way I do it is when you upload a photo to imgur, right click on it and select "open image in a new tab" or "copy link address". Either option will give you the right link you need, all you do is paste it in the format Yirg posted.
