Monthly in a Month #42: The Dice Edition

Fallout has 41 minutes on board but it was from trying to set up the game for a previous month.

I was on the fence about trying out for this one, but after realizing it has been over a year since I last did this event I decided it was about time to make a return.

All games were unplayed before this event but a couple were idled (noted above).
Additional screenshots are available if needed! I enjoyed Grow: Song of the Evertree the most but whew! It took a lot longer than I expected!

1: Calico (February 2022 Humble Choice) - Current Status: In Progress

I know it's the middle of the month already, but I'm still going to give this a try! There are a bunch of games I've wanted to play that I've had in my library far too long from past Humble Monthly/Choices. (And thanks BTW for excusing idle time from the card farmer, that thing really messes up my playtime stats lol)

1. Everhood (Humble Choice February 2022) - Completed (finished the main story, got the New Game+ achievement which you get after the credits)
   This one was a decent game, I can see why people compare it to Undertale. The story and general vibe did feel weaker than Undertale, although I do have the urge to try New Game+ and find anything I missed in my first playthrough.
2. Calico (Humble Choice February 2022) - Completed (got the Witch Way achievement which you get after the credits)
   A pretty good Animal Crossing-style game, although as an indie project it lacks a lot of the polish you'd expect from a larger developer. Rough around the edges, but very cute and very enjoyable.
3. Inside (Humble Monthly May 2017) - Completed (got the credits, don't click if you don't want to see a screenshot spoiling the final scene)
   This game is a modern classic, and I can see why. It sets the mood perfectly and tells a compelling story despite a lack of text or dialog. The platforming mechanics are tight and the puzzles are well-designed, and the graphics are gorgeous despite being low-poly and typically monochrome. 10/10.
4. Event[0] (Humble Monthly April 2017) - Completed (got one ending, "Together, Forever")
   Like Everhood, this one seems to be a game that needs more than one playthrough to really "get". The gameplay is unique and intriguing, although the terminals end up being quite limited in terms of what keywords they'll respond to, reminiscent of classic text parser type games. The graphics are nice, although not being able to change the FOV was a pain. I got a bit nauseous playing this one, but I also had some kind of cold/flu at the time so I can't be sure whether it was the game or the virus.
5. If found... (Humble Choice May 2022) - Completed (both the final chapter, "This Book Belongs To", as well as the epilogue, "What happens now?")
   This wasn't much of a game, more of a kinetic novel, as there was no real interactivity until the epilogue. That being said, this game/story was incredibly emotionally intense, in a good way. Beautiful and touching, it tells two stories at once: one grounded in real-world Ireland in the 90s centered on a trans woman and her difficulties coming out and navigating life and relationships, and one set in space with an astronaut whose name is awfully similar to the aforementioned trans woman battling an anomaly that threatens the Earth. While I didn't find myself quite satisfied with how the two stories were tied together at the end, the whole experience was still amazing. A rollercoaster of emotions, I feel like the games side of Annapurna should contact the movies side and turn this into a movie, it's that good.
6. Aviary Attorney (Humble Monthly March 2018) - Completed (got ending C)
   It seems like there's a theme going on with these games I've picked. Like Everhood and Event[0], this game wants you to play through it more than once, as the fact that I got "ending C" might tell you. What at the start seems to be a straightforward cribbing of the Ace Attorney series set in a version of 19th-century Paris populated by talking animals quickly reveals there's more than meets the eye to both the characters and plot. Part legal drama, part detective story, and part political thriller, this game is probably best suited for those who are fans of both Ace Attorney and Les Miserables, and luckily I am one of those people.

(I hope it's alright that the last screenshot there was on Imgur instead of Steam, Aviary Attorney has a bug with the Steam overlay and screenshot feature as seen in this discussion.)

I don't know if anyone else is planning to play Rebel Inc. for this month, but does anyone know if it counts towards the challenge? I've currently played through all non-dlc missions, beat a map with every leader once, and I'm halfway through a "campaign" (5-missions randomized strung together).

All good if it doesn't, I'm stuck on GRIME but I could pivot for the time being (and get good)

I'm absolutely not going to be able to beat enough games, but hey, why not give it a try. My strategy will be that I'll look at old humble monthlies to find games that make me go "Oh, that was a game I had not thought about since I first activated it", and see if I can't find some hidden gems.
