I am surprised how many good in sense of intelligent and creative movies are mentioned here. Expected more Fast & the Furious, Transformers, Lord of the Rings and so on... not to say that these are bad, at least not Lord of the Rings ;). Personally Fight Club is one of my favs, not the fav, but a great example of how awesome movies and actors can be. Considering Edward Norton as one of the best actors of alltime. But you are right, we don't talk about nothing.

That's actually one of the worst scenes for me in The Matrix. Why oh why did he have to put one hand behind the back?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Why not, what's wrong with putting his hand behind his back? It's just a common expression that people use to claim they are superior and he has learned so much that the fight has become trivial to him so that is the first thing he thinks of doing.

Yes, it's a way to demonstrate superiority but I feel it's very much an overstatement at this point. There's simply no need to demonstrate his superiority to anyone at this point and Neo himself just looks surprised and amazed at what's happening.

If there's one thing I'd change about this movie this would be it.

Edit: Sorry about the slightly misplaced "rant". It's one of my pet peeves.

I thought it was a great scene and it fit well. Throughout the entire movie, anytime he fights Agent Smith, he is either losing or it is a fairly equal fight. Now it's the end of the movie and this fight is where he finally believes and realizes that he is "the one". With this moment of clarity he realizes his potential and the movie shows it to us with a great scene of his superiority over Agent Smith.

I thought it was one of the best scenes in the movie.

Warning: Major spoilers in the final fight scene.
One of the last fights where he is getting good, but still not showing his full potential
Final fight where he realizes his true potential

I agree, it is a well made scene. And be it only to show the viewer the progress that happened, which you could hardly do any better than to let him fight with one arm only.

It's simply a gross overstatement (I'm not sure this is the right word, it feels right but also slightly off) at this point after getting up from being shot several times point blank in the chest. This and the fact that he has no one but the audience to demonstrate his superiority to makes it silly and redundant in my eyes.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this :)

He is demonstrating his powers to himself, he is testing his abilities. You can see from his facial expressions that this is all new information to him, he is amazed at what is happening. Also, there was 2 other agents that were watching and then run away after he kills Agent Smith, but I don't think he was worried about them or demonstrating for them, it was all about his own realization of who he really is and what he is capable of.

So you're saying he's demonstrating to himself that he is superior by putting his hand behind the back? :P
