what kind of tournament are you planning? Online or Offline
You have to figure out, who will join and where you will promote the tournament. Figure out the target market and go from there. Online tournament can be ran with lot more games, where as offline tournament will be harder as you have to see what the people in your area is into and where to host the event etc, just lot more work. For games wise, I would stick to game where you can 1 vs 1. Where as game like Dota/LoL usually need a full team to be more entertaining.

cons you dont need super fast pc's to run this games so friends that you invite can bring old laptops or pcs and still run those games also there are in my opinion best fps games .If you dont like fps games here some rts games from past.
