Finally! for some

Edit on Dec 7:

There's no technical reason Rockstar can give for why a PC version of GTA 6 isn't arriving with the console release

While the trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 didn't exactly launch as expected, the fact that nothing has been said about a PC version is disappointingly normal for Rockstar.

Was it around GTA V when the characters became too much and too meme-y?

The memes didn't bother me in V so much as the heists made no sense. We have to go to all this trouble in the first one to get weapons I already had, then setup an escape route etc. In reality, it would have been simpler to just go in there, kill everyone, and escape by helicopter. The same with a later one, we go to all that trouble to steal a sub, or whatever it was, then we just give it up.

The other issue I had was with the characters. I liked Michael, but wanted to kill his family, and Trevor, and why is Franklin even in this? Just some rando car thief that ends up being the MC for some reason.

My first 3D GTA was SA, and it was better in almost every way. V was also a downgrade on IV. I'll give VI a shot, but my expectations are incredibly low.

IV was worse attempting to tell a serious story in a 'chaos free for all murder simulator' that is GTA. Terrible driving, terrible physics, terrible gunplay, one of the worst PC ports of all time and tone deaf attempt at awards bait story.

Well, I'm excited for GTA VI. I've always liked the GTA series since I played the first one and the London version on the PlayStation back in the late 90s. I do recall reading rumors about playing a female character so it looks like it might be true.

Meh trailer imo. Wonder if this is going to be able to compare with the atmosphere cyberpunk had or it's story. So far it seems to be super obsessed with showing ass and tits, guns and that cars can race. Like sure, that's part of GTA, but looking at the GTA V trailer, it was more than just sex and you had some interesting characters and some fun story being told, we'll have to see about this one.

So far, to me it feels like it's the twitch streamers erp influenced game and it looks pretty trashy, washed out and the main character seems boring af, but I have hope that's not their focus and it can deliver in the end.

So yeah, looking out for it, but if it's a epic exclusive again, I guess I'll try it out in like 5 years.

Yes, this worries me partly as well. These things have always been big points of GTA Series, but its pretty much an extra on top of a story. It could be some "bonnie and clyde" type of deal with the protagonists, but how intricate their story will turn out is really a question here.

Hopefully it wont be just all flash and lights with zero content. Otherwise it will be as you brilliantly put "it's the twitch streamers erp influenced game and it looks pretty trashy"

Vice city vibe and looks like two protagonists. I just hope they strike the balance between urban/country side AND will have the open world "feeling". Can't really describe what I mean by that, but many AAA games feel cramped lately. And GTA for me has always been this feeling of freedom and vast world. And maybe its nostalgy speaking, but even GTA3 and Vice City felt big to me (even replaying it now). How they made it do it - no idea. But I hope they manage to achieve the same with GTA6

And also I hope that the writing and the whole premise of it being a parody of USA will still remain. Freedom and satire are two biggest points of GTA series IMO so they can't lose that. But I guess that will come down to the team that is working on it. Hopefully its not some new team of writers and directors who want to take it into a "NeW dIrEcTiOn" and get political and whatnot. But the first trailer seems fine. Hopefully there wont be 5 years until release though.

Define politics for me Einstein. Is it when women exist in the storyline?

Did I say any word about women in the story line? Offended already about some made up shit?

Frankly I like that we will have a women protagonist in a game. And where do you come off with this argument anyway? We have Tomb Raider, Hellblade, Horizon Zero Dawn to name a few with female protagonists and those are critically acclaimed and awesome games. Yet here you are making up arguments and trying to get offended at me. Seriously - who besides some 3 or 4 incel morons living in basement dont like women in a game?

You can understand politics as you like genius. But insinuating that it is directed at women being in a game is simply narrow minded.

Here's a fan made trailer from six months ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuoUHzb4kRs

It's surprisingly similar to what we got, but with less white males, or people with body shapes that would be commonplace in previous GTA games.

Some notable similarities include, prison origin, cars doing donuts, and male and female protagonists. It's hard to believe that Rockstar didn't watch that trailer, and then add some current year to it.

Played all GTA games since first game (incl. London) and always loved their games - they were always moving game industry forward towards unthinkable, be it transition from GTA1 to GTA2, then into 3D and so on so on...

I am a bit hesitant about GTA 6 - introduction of main characters did not appeal to me, strong female lead would be cool 10 years ago, but we'll see what happens. Also worried about writing - many veterans left (Unsworth, Jones, Houser) and replacing them won't be easy.

What does look stunning, however, is the graphics. Just like when I was amazed with GTA 5, it will be same with this game - nothing looks even remotely close to what I just saw.

I'll never get back GTA3 and Vice City experience, because that was back then and times were different and I was different. GTA5 didn't have me drive around and do small things for years, I finished the story and deleted it. So yeah, I'm happy there's gonna be a next one in my lifetime, but by the time it releases on PC it will be 3-5 years old... knowing Rockstar... and even then it's gonna be heavily discounted in 6 months or even free on Epic, so I have no intention of paying $70 for it, no thank you.

You can always replay them, friend. It can still be a sweet experience as long as you forgot most of the details.

Meant in context of this being Vice City again, but I have no expectations/hopes, only once you're young and only once you experience all of that for the first time. Even SA was (for me) new town, new missions and character, but the same old game more or less. Similar with GTA4 and V. So for me it's - sure I'll play eventually but there's no excitement of any kind.

+1 for this. I feel the same about Vice city as well. Playing it first time and having the feeling it is the most realistic the most cool game ever comes around just once. For me the feeling was similar when first playing SA and also GTA4. And coming back to these games the feeling is not just the same (Although I still enjoy the games)

I loved GTA5 and still have it downloaded to play now and then, but it already felt quite generic and didn't have that excitement. And I have feeling GTA6 will feel similar. But here's to hoping they truly do push boundaries and make it a brilliant experience.

It sure looks good, really getting my hopes up. I hope (Ooooh I soo hope....) I can have as much fun with this as I had with GTA V when I first played that one.

But as we have learned with some major releases these last few years, talking the talk doesn't mean it will walk the walk.

You're not wrong, but remember Cyberpunk 2077? CD Projekt who were really untoucheable in their excellence, and then delivered arguably the most anticipated title for years in a state of absolute unplayable shit-mess. A shit-mess it took them 3 years to sort out with a trail of broken promises behind them, leaving many feeling cheated - even with buy-backs.

Pre-purchases is a large part of how releases like that are produced.
Take nothing for granted, wait for reviews.

Sure thing, although I think that situation with CP2077 was a little overblown on launch about how unplayable it was. For old-gen consoles it was 100% true, but on PC situation wasn't that dire. At least they did great redemption arc similar to No Man's Sky. It is what it is, don't think it will happen again with them since they saw how it can eat into their profits and reputation.

I never pre-order anyway since I don't buy games on release, no money for that adventures. About a month ago I did my first pre-order, it was The Talos Principle 2 because:
a) it was cheap for the game of that caliber, only 23.5€
b) tried the demo beforehand and it was excellent and got me hyped

Happy to say that it justified all my expectations and then some. Next pre-order is Silksong, no questions about that, I'll do that blindly in a second. Hopefully it is coming this decade :P

2025 could still mean Christmas 2025, then console exclusive, maybe even for some period Social Club exclusive on PC, then quite a while full price.
No reason to get hyped yet at all.

That's pretty much what I expect too. Console release will drop sometime Q4 2025. PC will be another year or two down the pipe from that. I'd be surprised if it's SC exclusive though, especially if it takes a few years from console to PC.

I think I should manage to like the two protagonists. But the rest of the setting? Probably not. At least the impression in the trailer is almost overwhelmingly trashy. I'd much rather want to play a GTA in some earlier decade. God, I'm getting old. :-p

They definitely put a lot of work in it at least visually speaking. You have to wonder though... will it still look good in 18-24 months or will it be totally obliterated by games released in the meantime?

I honestly don't think the trailer is pushing any boundaries graphically. The hair sim on the blonde girl looked great but the skin shaders still look plastic and some of the realism present in other titles was still missing. It's probably not their main selling point, so that's fine I guess.

To me I felt like I just saw twerking and semi naked girls, in a GTA 5 trailer with graphic mods (at best).
I don't get all the hype. People overreacting going crazy over it can easily make the devs overconfident and just content with releasing a "modded" GTA 5.
The only scene I liked was the one with the animals. I want more of that. I want new IRL aspects added to the game to make the multiplayer aspect fun afterwards. I want a real story instead of ass shaking and onlyfans culture. I wanted to see more action and danger. I wanted to see next-gen mechanics and graphics.

If the trailer reflects 90% of the game's final state already, then I hope it gets released at €500 so that I never buy it.

Really disappointing trailer. Seems like Jason's a dumb sidekick to the main protagonist Lucia.

No interesting characters so far. Only cinematics - who knows what the actual game will look like. No indication of what features the game has, what's new, what's changed. Will there we additional activities like managing businesses.

How long can a story about a couple of robbers be ? And what is the point of releasing a trailer this far out from release, with so many unanswered questions.

I'm really not drooling over it like so many others. Specially the graphics. I've been burned way too many times with graphical downgrades, so a word of advice to all those salivating over the 'amazing' graphics - they're only cinematics. Wait for the actual game.

Looks slick, but.... it does seem to be leaning hard into that modern 'American gangster' lifestyle and aesthetic. Very loud and obnoxious. I guess that's why I always preferred the older Saints Row games. Tried GTA V and just found all the characters horrible, no one I could really root for, and I kind of hoped they all failed and went to jail. But I know Rockstar can do better, as RDR shows.
We're in this sad situation where so many game studios are being forced to shut down due to the costs of doing business, and it feels like there's no room for big open world games outside of what Rockstar and Ubisoft feeds us and they are playing to their type to make sure it makes money. A decade ago there was so much more choice and experimentation.

We did go from 2 bil people using the internet in that time to 5.3 billion people.

Probably the only people not using the net nowadays are newborns and people who are way too old to even move. There's 771 million people over 65, and 133 million newborns each each basically. So around 900 mill who are either less than a year old, and over 65. Add really poor unfortunate people to this, like the kids in china factories, people in north korea, workers in the emirates, and you get another billion people.

This same effect is present in films, music, etc. It's like a big FOMO effect.

And the percentage of the population that is using internet frequently, especially that one way or other are invested in popular culture (such as games, movies, memes, etc) have vastly grown too. The first generation of "silly" gamers are now the parents that spread the joy to their kids. This effect will likley grow even more in the future.
