Not really but I would advise for it if you want to experience the lore :) If I remember right, DS II has short video of the DS I:n plot. So no need.

Also you can't import saves etc from the first one (makes sense since you are War in the first and Death in the second one).

It's not but why would you want to miss all the fun DS 1 offers?

Yeah, still waiting on a part III as well. We still have 2 horsemen to play as, and we still need to see how the stories of 1 and 2 are related (apart from happening in parallel at the same time).

Last I heard, Nordic Games is lookiing for a studio to take it on, but they'd rather not do it at all than do a half-baked cash-in so they're being quite selective.

I'm hoping new studio Airship Syndicate gets involved - that's where Joe Madueira and some of the other key creative people are now. (Of course, those guys are now hard at work at reviving Battle Chasers as a JRPG...)
