Ok, I bought a new laptop, Lenovo G510 to be more exact. Anyway, so I was trying to install windows with the disk I got with the laptop. First thing I noticed is that when I boot the laptop it says something about "suspect partition". But either way, I continued on trying to install windows, so of course first I went to BIOS Setup and selected the DVD-ROM for first priority boot, saved and restarted. and then, nothing, still continues to boot the welcome screen of the Bios with the warning text. Does anyone knows anything about?

[Accidentally deleted my other message]

I just find out that the problem is with the disk driver itself, when I put a different disk, it lets me boot it normally.

Yeah seems so. Luckily I have another windows disk for windows 7, I'll just use it. Tho I still wonder what the problem is.

Wait, the message about the suspect partition shows up everytime you start the laptop or just when you have windows 8 in the DVD-rom?
If its only with windows 8 disk its because windows 8 isnt compatible to run with linux distros due to grub/UEFI stuff.

put win7 disk and format the HDD.

side question: Was the laptop previously owned or opened and maybe used from someone before you get it in your hands, or is it a brand new laptop with shield box?

Well, I removed all the old partitions (and created a new one), but I still have the same problem with the windows disk in the box. And the laptop is brand new, and if by shield box you just mean the retail box, then yeah, it came with the box and all.

In addition to boot priorty there is also selecting a boot device, try hitting DEL, F1, F11, F12 upon startup and see if you can select a device to boot.

If that doesnt work confirm your windows DVD is bootable, use a USB stick that usually works for me.

Actually I was considering it, because I don't plan to use that computer for games, which is my only drawback with linux, but I don't have much time or energy now to mess with things like choosing a Linux and downloading it, so I just use whatever I was given with that laptop for now.

Ubuntu if you maybe want to play something some time
Otherwise, I like CrunchBang but I couldn't find drivers for my GPU for that distro
On desktop pc my only choice is Mint ;)

I would go with Xubuntu instead of Ubuntu, otherwise OpenSUSE.

What is the warning text you are receiving? And keep in mind don't attach any kind of HDD or Pendrive while booting up.

Try to bring up the boot menu and select the dvd drive? It changes with different manufacturers. Try pressing F10, 11, 12, delete etc.

E: Oh I see you found the problem already.

Oh, mymymy....it's a preconfigured laptop with win8 preinstalled. U can reset it to factory-defaults by turning it off and turning it on with this special lenovo-button by choosing "system recovery" or just read the digital manual also preinstalled in ur OS.

If u really want to install it with this dvd, then turn off secure-boot in the BIOS, reinstall windows and activate secure boot afterwards. Without secureboot its a lot easier.

I've just read the last (first) post....

If u want to install Windows 7 on ur Win8-Laptop, u need to turn off secure boot and when something called "CSM" exists in ur BIOS u have to activate it. An UEFI-Win7-Installation should be possible with ur dvd.

I hope this modell supports Win7 officially, otherwise u will get problems finding Win7-Drivers XD

Bought my Lenovo G410 1.5 year ago. Used it for about 10 minutes and then the hard disk got corrupted somehow. It was the worst feeling ever. Good thing got warranty covered. But they said the warranty only cover for ONE major damage - that is if something else went wrong, I got to pay them for service.

Squaretrade, third party warranty program that I've been using.

Got my 95% of my purchase price for my last laptop when its video card's fan broke and during a long gaming session warped the motherboard. Then a few weeks after they give me the money I got my old hard drive back in the mail. They offer points when you register a product, those points can be used for free warranties, I got my tablet a warranty for free.

It's kind of nice too they will track your manufactures warranty and let you know what all your options are before you send off your items. So far been using them for over and no complains, and I complain a lot.
