Trading card beta just got expanded

110k more users added to the Trading Card Beta!

As of this writing, everyone in the Steam Trading Cards group who wasn't in the beta has now been added. Each day we'll continue to add everyone new to the group the Trading Card beta. We're over 280,000 users in the group, the demand has just been amazing. (link)

So I just panic sold all my cards and invites......

Ah, about that, it's your idle account a premium one? As in Dota 2, you need to, atleast, buy something at the store to get card drops.

This might be an out of place question given how happy everyone is for this card thing in the first place but why is everyone so excited for this card thing?

Some people are excited because they can make money selling these cards on the market for doing basically nothing.

Others are excited cause they can "level up" their profile even though it's completely meaningless, much like leveling up in the games we play.

It's not completely meaningless, chances are you get random DLC for one of your games. Well, with my luck it would be some crappy item for JC2/SR3, so I'm not even trying.

Coupons, emoticons, and backgrounds are the only items you'll get when crafting a badge. There are also milestone unlocks that allow further cutomization of your profile or increase your friends list cap.

In the last 2-3 days, I spent a lot of time buying these invites from the market and selling them for more. It's like >6 keys profit to me, even though I lost at least €4 due to the price drops.
