It's April. Valve probably doesn't even have the plans set in stone yet, how would anyone else know? The website just uses the "proven tactics" of sales starting on a certain day, lasting a certain amount of days and ending around 4th of July.

I remember that I started farming cards on my alt to give it a purpose (I created it years ago to test something and then left it forgotten for many months), then I created a second alt so I could farm even more cards from freebies, when the cards started to pile up I managed to add archibot to my friends list and used it to trade so I could complete the sets. And now the next step is is to craft those into badges so I can get sale cards to craft more badges... I'm starting to feel like I felt in some some sort of convoluted trap.

Funny thing is, most badges cost more to craft than you get back from selling card drops.
So, it's only a leveling discount, not good money source like it used to be until Winter 2014

But to create badge, you need to waste cards. And while there are some cheap badges, most of them cost at least 3 times more than Event Card that is worth 10 cents.
Yes, I know there badges like Jumpball where crafting badge will get you more money than selling individual cards. But most of times, you're losing money.
Not like first events, when normal Event Cards were selling for 50 cents, not today's barely 10.

Refund is nice, but they took out the interesting part of the interesting AND good sale. Now even if it's a good one, I just check it at first, hiss at my wishlist, be happy about people making a "gems of the sale" topic because I realize how many great games I already have, then discover a few new ones that I buy as gifts to some people. At least this is how my sales usually go ^^
