i avoid buying bundles unless there is a game i really wanted and cant pass up for the small price. Most of the time however the bundles dont contain many gamee i want super bad. they may be games i want to try or wouldn't mind having in the collection. Usually though i avoid them cause i think to myself....."if i own all these games then i will have no GA to enter on SG" so i don't buy... which leads me to think that SG would be far far far less populated if all these bundles didn't exist. Sometimes it just feels like SG is a place where people come to dump their unwanted stuff and that tends to cause problems with CV and all kinds of stuff. But oh well i better get busy entering all these GA for HiB 8 . gotta keep that points pool emptied so i can earn more and enter more.

......oh goodness my life is so boring

I buy the bundles that I like. I missed out on the Double Fine and the one with Lucious just cause my back log is ridiculous.

So, to sum up your post:

  • You buy stuff you want, and don't buy stuff you don't want.
  • Having games available for a very small price, combined with the fact they usually come bundled with stuff people don't care about, encourages giveaways.
    Thanks for your contribution!

I somewhat enjoy stumbling on games I would have missed otherwise. That's the reason I loved cover discs on magazines back in the days.

I wouldn't use the word dump, gift is more like it. And there's nothing wrong with gifting games that don't interest you, since after all you're not supposed to gain anything from the site from contributing.

"and that tends to cause problems with CV and all kinds of stuff."
Not at all. There's no problems with contributor value, only bundlers complaining about not getting full contribution which is different.

But to answer your question I avoid bundles if they have 1 game that interest me.

So if the bundle contains something you like, you dont buy it, but if it doesnt, you do buy it? ;)

If it's just one I avoid it. If it's more than one I buy it.
Usually the games I want are BTA bonuses and I still don't have a job. D:

i think he meant if it only has 1 game, as in he wants to be buying the bundle for more than just a single title

i guess dump would refer more to when people just acuumilate so many keys and dont know it and when they find out they are like wtf should i do with these. oh i know steamgifts.

i was just referring to how the rules have been revamped several times after so many bundles started flooding everything. a game gets put into a bundle one time or goes on sale for super cheap and it makes certain people act like those games are worthless to them as far as trade value and stuff goes. kind of like how some people insist that since games are cheaper in russia or another country that they are worth only that in trade. im sorry if i paid full price for something i dont care if it was on sale for 1 cent in latvia or rakjunkistan im not going to trade it for something thats junk. im also not going to bother giving it away when it has been devalued by a bundle.

There's nothing wrong with this as long the game wasn't being given away for free. The contributor is just being generous that's not a bad thing.

The rules have only been revamped once ever since I signed up. A product being bundled is not a big deal really.

You obviously weren't here when contributor value meant absolutely nothing. Contributor value is not a being deal and the site does not revolve around it. It's a thank too the contributors who have gifted games by other users. As I said before you're in a gifting community, you should not expected to be earning something for your gifts.

i think your under the impression i am complaining or think there is "something wrong" but i am not and i dont.

but if the gifting mentallity was that prevalent we wouldn't see all the butthurt ppl when CV had to be changed cause of bundles. they get so mad that someone else might be earning CV....when it doesnt affect them at all.

its also hilarious how anytime someone even hints at not being here for something other than selflessness that they get jumped on by so many ppl. it makes me think there is a huge amount of people out there that really think they are doing something tremendously good for the world by sitting at their PC all day buying bundles and giving away games. the world is so much a better place now that ive given away these 6 indie games that appear to be made with a crayon in digital form and the 60 cents i sent to whateverbscharity is going to change EVERYTHING (not saying every little bit doesnt help). like i said before of thats what people really wanted to do then get off your arse and do it the right way. selfmasturbating your ego from the confort of your deskchair cause u gave away some crap no one really wants and sent 10 cents away to some far reaches of the world is not the best way to do it.

Bundles take 99% of the money I've spent on games this year. And it's not like I buy every bundle out there, just those that interests me and have a good price.

I think that you should buy the games yourself if you can, instead of entering giveaways for them. There are people that seriously CAN'T buy them for whatever reason, and you're just lowering their already low chance. It's just my opinion.

"If I own all these games then I will have no GA to enter on SG"
And what is wrong with having nothing to enter?

because entering GA is fun to see if you win. the whole white knight mentality in regards to things like this is just silly. if giving to charity or helping someone was the main concern then skip the bundle BS and buying something for yourself and just give the money away.

I only buy games from bundles that I actually want. I don't buy from indiegala or indieroyale anymore, I rarely buy from groupees and I mostly buy from humblebundle.

It's a good way to discover and play games you probably don't know. And also you can contribute to charity and help indie developers all for a really good price.

I like bundles and I'm not one to pass up a good deal, usually I don't bother though unless there's something in there that I've either wanted or heard good stuff about. Yes, I suppose it is true that the more games you own, the less GA's you are eligible to enter, but there are so many games out there with more and more being released as time goes on, there's always going to be something I want but don't have, haha. I definitely agree that SG would be less populated if bundles didn't exist....but to be honest I don't really care. Yes this site is a place for people to dump the games they don't want, but isn't that the whole point? Getting rid of something you don't want or need so that someone else can enjoy it for free? I guess in a perfect world every GA would be for AAA titles but eh, I'm not fussy, there's plenty of good stuff to win among bundle games.

I couldn't give a rats ass about CV either, granted I haven't made a GA yet, but when I do it'll be because I'm feeling nice and I want to brighten someone's day a little, not because I want credit. Of course CV matters some if you want to enter contributor GA's and better your chances but there's plenty of open GA's around and I come here with the hopes of maybe supplementing my steam library with a game or two, not populating it solely with shit I win. If I won a lot i'd probably feel a little bad for people who aren't as lucky, haha.

Why not? They're usually disgustingly cheap and they also often give a portion of what they receive to charities. Doesn't hurt to have some new games to try out neither, even if you weren't really interested in them beforehand.

I'm opposed to the current concept of bundles and don't buy any.

My opinion is that developers and publishers should make their games good enough so they could sell it separately and on their own set price.
I will not buy bundle even if it contains game I may like because I'm not interested in other bundled games and not going to encourage developers of some shitty games with my buy just because they were packed with single good game.

Also I noticed that there exists a prevalent opinion that almost all bundles are bought for $1. I'm sure it's not correct. Why would somebody bother paying this low? I would just download pirated version instead. And there's the fact that they receive several finished games - on Kickstarter there are lots of people paying more than $1 for a game that may not be made at all.

I completely agree. I mean, if there was a bundle that gave key for every game separately, I'd maybe even go with it. But the idea of putting useless, crappy, awful games on my Steam account like I did in the past...
Besides supporting some useless video game developer who can't sell a game because it sucks... nah. Let's be honest, 90% of the games that do end up in Bundles are shite!

i blame that on "devs" that are nothing more than people trying their luck and making a game. taking advantage of the whole "graphics dont matter" mentality to pass off even the worst examples of a "game"
dont get me wrong there are games that are good and fun and dont have the best graphics at all, but there is a clear difference between a game and an attempt at a game. things like this are why apple has an approval system on their app store. and no steam greenlight doesnt work that well, too many hipsters voting for garbage

Right after the whole trading card thingy.

i like the trading card thing. it adds much more than greenlight does. snazz up profile and get litte more useless loot. it feels like a better way to do an achievement system to me, they just need to incorprate it all better.

I buy every bundle as long as it has at leas one game I don'T already have, unless I really don'T want that game. Since they are obscenely cheap I don't mind the fact that I'm getting a few games that I might not like in the deal as some of the time it turns out I find a hidden gem I wouldn't have tried otherwise.
