Hey Guys :)
First of all im german and my english is a little bit bad if you are german you can answer in german to :D
I have heard that i can download Win 10 now for free because i have Win 7 so i have a little bit questions to you :)
Is Win 10 compatible to the Games with Win 7?
Is Win 10 taking more Ram or space or what it is called?
Is the performance of Win 10 better or not?
And is the Design or Overlay from Win 10 better then Win 7 ?
Thank you for your attention :)

What is better for Gaming and Surfing?

Windows 7
Windows 10
  • Is Win 10 compatible to the Games with Win 7?
Generally yes. Windows 10 is just a new iteration of the 6 Kernel (7 = kernel 6.1, 10 is 6,4). If software runs on Windows 7 it should work fine on 10.
  • Is Win 10 taking more Ram or space or what it is called?
Less in general, but around the same as 8/8.1. Like mentioned elsewhere there does seem to be some memory leaks here and there, but nothing problematic unless you run you pc on for days.
  • Is the performance of Win 10 better or not?
Just like Windows 8/8.1, 10 uses much less ressources than 7 and is better. Windows 10 also introduces WDDM 2.0 drivers, which uses less CPU power, which directly improves performance in CPU limited games. DX12 is also 10 exclusive, so yeah.
  • And is the Design or Overlay from Win 10 better then Win 7 ?
    Much better in every aspect.

The only issue to mention are smaller bugs here and there, that should get solved within a month or two. You don't have to update right now, so you could wait a month. But there is no reason to stay with 7 (there hasn't been since 8.1).

Thank you :D I dont know what Kernel what WDDM drivers is :D I have a quad core so it is 4 Kernel?
I think my Card dont support Directx 12 :)

Kernel is the core/heart of an Operating System. WDDM is the standard and technology Windows uses to handle drivers for your hardware. I believe Windows 7 has version 1.3 or 1.4. Windows 10 introduced version 2, which is much better, as it uses less resources.

All AMD GCN based cards support DX12, so 7000 series and up. Most Nvidia cards from 600 series and up should support it too, so you should be good to go.

Everything should stay intact. All my installed programs from my Windows 8.1 installation were still there and worked. All my fils in documents and picture folders, etc, were also intact. Of course you should make a backup of those folders first though.

you can't deactivate all spyware features. A few of these can only turned off in the enterprise version and are "hidden" in the registry.

Edit: they read you mails and chats view personal data and collect files (you can read this in microsofts data protection regulations) in order to send these to a third party business. Like if they "think" you violated the copyright of somebody they might take a sample and check it. Seriously take a look at it, it's ridiculous.

Just got notice the 'commandos' series isn't working because of dx5 support lacking. This probably applies to other games using dx5 as well. Compatibility modes are apparently not helping either, to the point where the publisher is recommending setting up a virtual machine.

Bit of a bummer, but expected as much...

Update: researching this a bit more, there are people claiming they got them to work without any problems... will see what happens.

To clarify, by "just got notice" I mean it was anounced by the dev/pub on steam, which is a good sign on a series of games that old (last one came out 12 years ago. I've seen worse support on games that came out this year.)

Going by reports, it seems that 1, 1.5 and 3 have issues while 2 asks you to install directplay and then works like a charm... which is GOOD because 2 is by far the best in the series, and in "Destination Paris" has a really good mod. In other words, that was the one I was worried about, the other ones not so much.

Currently holding out on upgrading from 8.1 to 10 for a while myself.

Never had any issues with either W7 or W8, and I'm using 4 different OS at my university (computer science) anyways and can't complain. They're all good on their own. I'm probably going to update, once the computers at the university will be, too.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Naja, was heißt "besser/schneller". Mit guter Hardware ist jedes OS schnell. Einziger Grund der mich zum vorzeitigen Wechsel überreden würde ist directx12, und das hat ja momentan noch keine Verwendung (und wahrscheinlich auch nicht bis nächstes Jahr).

Permalink

wird directx eigentlich nur für spiele gebraucht?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Also so ab nächstem Jahr vllt.

not so complicated.. is clear like sun that is not possible by appling patches.. i mean some custom os version. like an android phone, a firmware without stupid undeletabled app.. same for this, a os, without win app store and/or force login with your @hotmal/outlook. ;)

DX12 utilizes WDDM 2, so you would have to change the entire driver framework of Windows 7 to support DX12, including the drivers themselves. Good luck. There is nothing Windows 7 does better than Windows 10. On the contrary.

Anyone enjoying windows 10, remember to also enjoy losing your privacy as Microsoft is making money on it.
Here is some tips how to work around it, but it doesn't solve all the problems and requires a lot of work.

Anything that is free never truly is free. There is always a bad side on it and it isn't fully realized even after a year.

Not in same way. In windows 10 they are doing it openly and not putting any effort on saving your privacy. Atleast in windows 7 it is still against the rules, even if they don't do greatly to protect you.

Many things are private by law alone. However murrica doesn't respect the laws of others and therefore companies get away with many things as murrica is pro-corporatism only.
Just cause they get away with it, doesn't mean we should let them do it freely. Then they will start to exploit us more in some other fields when this becomes a standard.

In all honesty, anyone who should jump on that hole is people who don't care about rights of others.

someone finds how to disable the hidden Key-loggers, the obvious one is just a distraction.
That and the possibility bugs me, that each Update might opt you in Key-logging once again - lol.
^ Or when DX12 gets useful - since currently there is no point upgrading solely for it, nor anything else.

Do HP-related forums on HW say similar things? And did you try to do a clean install of Win10 and try then?
AMD factory drivers should work fine, this is why it's a bit surprising, to be honest. Unlike nVidia users, AMD users reported all new drivers working just fine.

It's usually hardware-locked, so for the same mobo you can install it with the same key again. Just get a clean unmodified ISO. Microsoft should have those on its website.

W10 is working without a problem for me but this depends on your hardware if it's compatible with W10. Dirty Bomb for example has a lot of complaints of people that can't start the game in Windows 10, but I can run it without a problem. I haven't had any issues of any kind & Windows 10 runs amazing. Much faster then the previous versions, the only downside is getting used to the new interface but I got used to it pretty quick.
For the terrorists worried about their privacy, go off the internet. If they want to invade your privacy, they can do it regardless of your os.
