Well, I'm a fan of gambling every now and then and so I bought $10 worth of random keys from a site. What do you think? A lot of these are familiar from bundles which means I lost a lot. Still, it was worth a shot since I was bored and there was a sale. I think I saw 1 unbundled from the list but I forgot which one. Will probably just trade these.

If getting from a random key reselling site, this is always always true - you're gonna get nothing. However if getting from a legitimate online store, there is at least a slim chance to get something better, which is fun.

I got Dark Souls 3 from the last grab bag sale on GMG (it was $3 or something for a bundle of 10 otherwise cheapo games). $0.30 each for a few giveaway keys isn't that bad, especially with a tiny chance for a nifty prize.

(And just in case I have a stalker, yes DS3 is not in my library - I gave it to a friend since I haven't played through DS1 yet and don't even own DS2)

Reply for you and also Nerney9. yes its possible get good thing on legit site like GMG but for me its very low chance, this chance is that low and i wont try it. With my luck i pay lot of "packs" and recieve only freebies from past :D I dont like pay for surprises, like HB monthly or random keys... my luck on these things is hidden far far away from me. Luck on getting good keys from random games is like winning games here... 20 games in 3 years :D i once bought gmg mystery... recieved low things activated only bcs cards and ones without cards are in backlong forever

At least they don't sound me very popular. But I'm bundle disconnected since 1-2 months.
And that may be better or worst,...

Some of them aren't bad, but it would certainly be cheaper to buy just the ones you'd actually like to have.

Random keys for $10? I kind of like to buy some ocassional random keys, but never for that much money...

Not sure if that was worth it. Probably not, but if you have fun doing that, why shouldn't you?

Yeah, I usually do it around once every 2 months. I do trade well so it usually ends up 3x what I paid for.

26 game. If we consider each game worth 0.5$ then we have :

26 x 0.5$ = 13$

but bundle games of those kind are not worth .5$. more like .3$. and the free ones even less.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, i'm agree about 0.3$ for some titles.

To be honest I never pay " 10$ " for a pack including 26 random games unless i know what type of [ in quality ] bundle games supposed to be there.

It's about two cheap bundles worth of keys, it would probably cost 4-6 dollars normally.
You didn't make a horrible deal, but it wasn't too good either.

So yeah not a lot a value imo, "random" "hot" keys are just bundle leftovers and some gleam.io leftovers and imo it wasn't that bad i've seen worst like half of them free or so, anyway imo random keys are bad would prefer 10 Indie Gala bundles anytime for example.

HRK is infamous for their scammy giveaways: They've a reputation for trolling free game promotions and cheap bundles, and then reselling the games at dramatically inflated prices.
Put more definitively, with GMG's random keys people at least report the occasional rare "win" from their random key pulls, but I've never once heard anyone mention anything other than repackaged free/bundle keys for HRK.

Given that HRK is one of the more infamous elements of the already infamous G2A network, it's.. really better to avoid that site altogether, given its reputation.

GOG's random keys seem to be the only ones that give a decent variety, and that's not surprising given GOG's reputation for being above average in its behaviors. Of course, those aren't steam games, so it's not directly comparable.

As far as the "Don't own" category in the list above- those are all cheaply bundled, low value games as well.
Ara Fell and Waste Walkers are actually the most valuable of the games listed, and they're not especially high value.
Also, Fort Defense ought be under the 'freebies' category. The list seems pretty much on point other than that.

But yeah, not only are most of those from free promotions or cheap bundles, and all with very low (to no) trade value, but most of them aren't considered very highly for playing, either. :X

All those combined probably wouldn't be worth a single Humble Monthly game in trade, or a single cheap BTA bundle. So we can say that their total value is lower than either of those, which means you're looking at maybe $2 spent if you'd tried getting them in lump trade.
If you'd traded for them with trading cards or used something like groupbuys, you probably could have gotten them even cheaper than that.

In sum:

  1. Avoid HRK in the future
  2. If you want to gamble with $10, do so with Humble Monthly. Even this last junk bundle would have given you FAR better returns. Likewise, you've a guaranteed reveal before it goes live (or two to three in some cases), so you can hedge your bets, which goes a long way.
  3. Keep in mind that while Humble Monthly is an actual bundle and designed to give some degree of value for your investment, and GOG does their random keys as part of their major sales promotions, any other random key offer (even ones that aren't outright scams like HRK) works by spamming a flood of terrible returns with the rare decent drop.
You're incredibly unlikely to get even a remotely fair return from any of them, no matter how many times you buy from them, since the odds of getting that decent drop are overwhelmingly against you. Moreover, by the time you get said drop, you're still going to be getting a terrible return in total.
If you really want to gamble with random key drops, wait until GMG does one of their discounted, limited supply offers on their random keys. At 8 to 20 cents per key attempt, you're at least not risking anything sizable. And, while rare, at least you know GMG does do the occasional decent drop, unlike HRK.

Nothing wrong with a little fun from time to time. It's kind of like getting a couple of scratch tickets from time to time. You know you're more than likely not going to win the big prizes (you'd be lucky to win back the money you spent), but the fact that you might win makes them a fun thing to do. I imagine this random key purchase is something along those lines?

I never understood the appeal of gambling, but I suppose it's like favoring a genre of games- everyone has their own things they enjoy.
But if you're going to gamble, do make sure to use a site that you actually have a chance of winning something from :P

(ie, not HRK :X)

Just like every lottery everywhere, the wins are balanced so that most get trash, some get good and rare few get great and the house is only guaranteed winner. It's more about the thrill of opening it than actually winning more than you paid.
