Hmm, this reminds me, maybe 1 year ago I reinstalled Mass Effect 1, and had to ask someone for permission to install the "Bring Down the Sky" thing. Forgot all about it, very annoying. :(

Exactly. My ME2 code transferred from steam when I made my Origin account, so this is of little interest. They should have done ME1 instead both to promote the trilogy and to give people something they don't already have in their ORigin accounts (though I wouldn't buy it just to fill that thing)

They give you 2 because they expect you will buy 1 from them in order to play 2. If they give you the first game, you can just start playing right away with no hard feelings. There is also a chance ME1 will be a bonus though at a later point.

Quality-wise, maybe (my first exposure to Bioware was not until ME2 was on substantial sales, so I can't comment in detail.) However I meant "going south" in the complete financial collapse sense, not just a general downward trend

Well EA isn't exactly rolling in cash. I remember reading an article that pointed out how low their profits are despite massive revenue.

I think it's more of a marketing move from EA, as soon as people have at least 1 game on origin EA hopes they will purchase more content from their store, that's why some older games where available for purchase in steam but still required Origin to launch.
And i'm willing to bet that there is a EA manager somewhere who really needs to boost the Origin userbase statistics to get his bonus.

It will get them on Origin, make them buy the DLC for it and on top of that will also force you to buy the original and/or sequel.
