You make a giveaway and the winner of the giveaway is a person who has entered 1000 giveaways, has made 0 comments and giveaways and is bad at manners. Anyway, hope you have fun with the Ship.
Also, Karma +10 for creating my first giveaway :D
Anyway, since there's nothing awesome to discuss, what was the first game you guys gave away?

Mine was an extra Humble Bundle I had. It is a shame that they don't at least thank you for the game. :(

Fucking leechers, man. Mine at least said thanks before removing me from friends.

Well, is there really anything else they can say but "Thank you" ?

Not really.

I haven't done many giveaways. However, all but one person at least said thanks in some way (if memory serves). If I get a chance I at least make some pleasant small talk with them and congratulate people for winning.

Company of Heroes Gold was my first giveaway. On Steamgifts anyway.

My first one was SpaceChem, because I loved the game and it felt like an appropriate game to hide at the end of a puzzle.

Here's my issue with people complaining about comments.

You see a giveaway and there are, say, 200 comments. You know what those comments say? "Thanks" That's not useful, insightful, etc. Why add to the thanks spam that gets ignored?

I felt the same way until I read this thread and realized most people really do like seeing page after page of thanks.

Because thanks = being thankful = appreciation? I say thanks all giveaways I enter because I am grateful for the maker of the giveaway.

I believe actions speak louder than words. If I win a giveaway, I create a giveaway.

What about both, lad? It's not as if the gifter can read your mind.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Because adding a token "thanks", which I can copy/paste on every entry does nothing. 100 other people will write the same thanks, thank you, you rock, etc and it gets glanced over at best, and ignored at worst. The gifter likely won't even look at the names of who's posting. I would rather give back to the community and SHOW my gratitude than thank every person who lets me enter their giveaway, which is at best a hollow gesture.

A lot of people don't think it's a hollow gesture. If you look at threads where people ask "why does everyone say thanks" you see that most gifters really like seeing page after page of thanks, even if it's just copied from the dozen other giveaways that person entered that day.

Avoid making it hollow, then. Add some personality to the mix.

Why must it be a token "thanks"? It's too easy of an excuse that it's shallow... then don't make it shallow.

Most people who don't thank don't admit to others (or themselves) that they're too lazy to do even the simplest of well-mannered gestures.

My you shouldn't just copy and past thanks, I usually try and say something about the game or the description if they put one. I'd rather see somebody say thanks in my giveaways, at the very least. I usually read all the comments. And if your so big about not wanting to see thanks well there is an app for that.

I don't say "thanks" when I enter a giveaway, and I don't really want anyone to say "thanks" in my giveaways. The reason why I don't want anyone to say thanks in my giveaways is simple, it makes it far harder for anyone who has anything that might be important to say (questions, concerns and so on) to be spotted in the clutter. I guess I just project my own feelings on others here.
That being said, if I win anything (and I've won one game thus far), I'll always say thanks and show that I'm grateful for the gift.

Also, first game I gave away was Nuclear Dawn, but I've created more giveaways since.

I would encourage you not to forgo common courtesy for a slight convenience. Instead, I offer you the alternative that I use: Scroll down really quickly to see if any sentences are longer than the typical "thanks" message. You can stop on those and read.

or use the addon that filters all the "thanks"-type comments out

Again I must just be projecting my own opinion on others here, but to me convenience is more important than what in most cases amounts to empty courtesy.

I've given a few bundle keys on the forums. The first one was a hacker evolution key in one of those horrible "Official Key Giveaway" threads. I posted a key and I shit you not the asshole who got my key said "It works!!!!!!!!LOL" and then I replied to my comment and said "I can't get a thanks?" and he said "No :P".

But my first official giveaway was S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat. Ever since that key giveaway I most likely will not do a public giveaway for awhile. I know not all people are like that, but I got really pissed off.
