Been a long time since I backed anything on Kickstarter, but I think it's a decent way for projects part way through production to get some additional funding. One Kickstarter I've been considering backing lately is this project, though doesn't look like they need any more help atp :p

I have backed Summer in Mara and it was a huge success. I have really enjoyed the game although I feel sad for the state the game was left in (with a lot of bugs)... it could have been polished some more for sure.
In the Summer in Mara they have managed to raise €233,919 (of €20.000 initial goal). They presented many stretch goals and aside from cosmetic ones none were implemented. Those are:
Surfing minigame - €45.000
Animal breeding machanics - €130.000
Photo mode - €150.000
When asked about it, they replied that they moved on... so I am not sure that I would trust them with so many stretch goals in Mika campaign.
There is a huge potential in Summer in Mara and the game could have been so nicely expanded, but it was abandoned. In a few months after the release they corrected few of the bigger problems and even deleted achievements that couldn't be obtained... two or three crabs couldn't be reached in the game - those were rewards for higher tiers where people left their messages and they didn't even tried to position the crabs elsewhere.
Also the current campaign is running under new account and not the previous Chibig one, although the person's name is same.
Just my two cents about Mika campaign. I have backed a few campaigns, some were great and some not so much. But I am not going to support Chibig again.
Edit: typos.

so the promised tuff that was never delivered? isn't that kinda scummy

It's hard with Kickstarter. The promised stuff is basically just the game and even it may not be delivered in the end. Everything else is just a higher standard.
The problem is their attitude... not trying to work on it after the release. No one says that it should be implemented right away, but after two more years? I think there was enough time to deliver their promises.

that is why i don't waste my money on these scams anymore i backed the nekopara box and took more than a year to get it and then back the Narcissu box by the same people and nothing - also backed that horrid zx spectrum handheld and well that didn't increase my faith in these sort of things

oh wow, that's harsh. thanks for the info, Kyrrelin :) I think it's harder for big companies/projects — they need a bigger budget, and they can't always forecast it correctly. Broken Age from Double Fine was a fine example of this, I think. It's simpler when there's a small group of devs. In the case I brought — it's just one dev. Or when I backed Beacon Pines — they too have a small company, three people

Heh, just wanted to pinpoint the other side of coin. ;)
Chibig was a small studio back then, only five people. I suppose they have grown now.
I pretty much understand that it can turn wrong when setting up the stretch goals, but I just don't like the way they have decided to deal with it. You know, the stretch goals were their idea and far behind their initial goal which was required to make the game. So there shouldn't be any real problem implementing it, but when we consider the state the game is - far from perfect, then it's pretty clear why they were not added...
There are lot of developers that fully work on their games and you can clearly see the passion. I though it would be same with the Summer in Mara, you know they talked about it very enthusiastically... but instead they jumped right on next project, before polishing the game properly. That's just sad.

yeah, I feel you. A friend of mine loves to jump from project to project without even finishing one. It can be very frustrating to deal with it. In case with Summer in Mara a lot of people were affected, so it’s no good. Well, nothing we can do except to hope they’re learning from their mistakes and will do better this time. And without your money, hehe :)

On the surface, sounds similar to the Blackwell Legacy games (point and click, sidekick ghost, mystery to solve). If the game is genuine and different enough to the Blackwell games then I would be very interested - definitely a fan of point and clicks.
Never been involved in Kickstarter though.

If I remember correctly, Blackwell Legacy was on the more serious side. But I only played one or two games (I know I should replay and finish, I know :), and it was a looong time ago, so I could be wrong. This one is on the funny side, and also I like the dev's writing style — on the Kickstarter page, and in emails. That's why I think it's good when you can play a demo — the game may look good on screenshots and all, but you'll never know if the writing inside is boring as hell xD

There used to be an adventure/point and click website that frequently had articles about kickstarter projects worth checking out, can't remember what the website was and don't have any luck finding it either.
Seems like I tried to back the 7th guest 3 back in the days, it was unsuccesful.

That's exactly what I was looking for! Didn't find anything either. Found one Steam Curator, but they post games from all genres, and titles like the one I brought will go unnoticed even for them
Oh, I didn't even know about the 7th guest 3 plans. I see that later there was a campaign for the 7th guest board game — and it was successful. Maybe there is still a chance :)

I backed Dreamfall Chapters. It was successful, but in part thanks to a state sponsorship they managed to secure, as the budget was quite high. No regrets, The Longest Journey is my favorite adventure series. They didn't meet two final stretch goals, the last one being making The Longest Journey Home, the 4th and the last game in the series. They had problems with delivering physical copies of books but eventually sorted it out, I believe.
I also backed Woven, they didn't meet their goal, but managed to secure funding elsewhere years later and finished the game. :)

Looks good. Does it have voice acting or text only? Because for me that's one of those things that seperate decent Pixel art Adventures from great ones like Fate of Atlantis or the Blackwell series.
Regarding your Kickstarter question: While one of my all time favourite games Faster Than Light went to Kickstarter to collect some extra money and give it some last polish when it was almost finished I personally have never backed a Kickstarter campaign and I don't intend to.
I consider myself a bit of an asshole and I'm not in the business of financing other peoples dreams unless I get a stake in the potential financial gain. When the game is ready and it's good I'll buy it the normal way but I don't pay for dreams and promises.

It's a campaign exactly for a voiceover. So if it'll be successful, there will be voice acting, if not — then not. So far the demo is with voice acting — I think they did it for some game jam.

That's an understandable pragmatic way of life :D

I think they accept regular debit cards too, if you distinguish them. But yeah, pretty much everyone accept paypal, so don’t know why Kickstarter is not. Probably they have their reasons, maybe fees are too high, or something. Personally i choose paypal whenever I can, too many websites want to save my card’s info
Comment has been collapsed.
Bit of a pain but do they accept gift cards? You can buy those prepaid cards but they normally charge $5 just to activate.

No idea, it says even try another payment option but when you click that, it just reverts back to the picture below.
I also wouldn't know of trustworthy sites with visa gift cards, we do also have paysafecards which is free, but no option.
I should be very very careful with my money anyway because of the moving, i saw another point and click adventure kickstarter too which is more expensive then this one.
If it were paypal i might have been persuaded to go for Arthur though but probably better this way.

I like Kickstarter alright. So far, I've backed two successful campaigns, Sunless Skies and The Binding of Isaac: Four Souls Requiem. The only things I dislike are that it's sometimes chancy to back unknown campaigns, and the fact that it's often challenging to explain how you don't get the things you backed right away. I've had times when people bothered the crap out of me with "Did you get your things, yet? Can I see them?" I do get it, though. Most people just buy stuff outright, so not having your purchases right away can be confusing to them.
Game seems good. I'll look into it a little more, and see if it's something worth backing.
Your grammar is just fine, by the way.

Thanks :) Sometimes I make the most stupid mistakes, so I'm still insecure about it, I guess. Well, not only that — I genuinely wish to know my mistakes so I can learn from them, but I know not all people feel okay correcting someone because they consider it rude
Both campaigns are great. I love an Isaac pink beanie :D Alt art cards are pretty cool too.
And Failbetter Games are making a romance game! (And I found a "Follow" button on a Kickstarter creator's page, so maybe I won't miss their new project)

Recently I backed a point'n'click game on Kickstarter and I'd like to give it a shoutout.
Kickstarter page: The Will of Arthur Flabbington
Steam page: The Will of Arthur Flabbington
The game will be released anyway, the Kickstarter campaign is for a voiceover. The demo (available on itch.io) is with voice acting, and it was quite good, so I thought it would be cool if the whole game will be with voice acting too.
Disclaimer: I'm not connected with a creator in any way, I just liked the demo, and sometimes (when I have free funds & free time) I like to support the creators of the not-so-popular point'n'click genre.
Also, to be honest, this game is relatively cheap ($9). I'm often reluctant to give someone $20 beforehand, because, well, I can buy it at the store for the same $20 later when it'll be ready, so what's the point, right? Not even mentioning that I'd wait for a sale. But because in this case it's cheap as it is, I wanted to support this campaign somehow.
As I said, you can play the demo on itch.io, and maybe if not back it, just add it to your wishlist on steam.
I'm also thinking about creating a thread about Kickstarter's point'n'click campaigns here on SG or even a Steam curator. Because I learned about this game by pure chance: on previous Steam Fest I played a demo for another game, didn't like it much, but visited their kickstarter page anyway. Tried to search for other games on kickstarter in the "Games" tab, but it only showed me board games. Then I found "Video games", then you should choose to show only "Live projects", and after that, you got a result of, my-oh-my, 153 projects. Of course, no one would find your game there if you don't run some marketing program or al least if you won't participate in steam fest which should run exactly during your kickstarter campaign. At the end only with a search prompt "point and click games" I found what I was looking for. Boo to you, Kickstarter.
What do you guys and gals think of kickstarter campaigns? Did you back any? Was it successful?
Sorry for my grammar, if there're any mistakes, you can point them out (no clicks, sorry) — I'm still learning
Obligatory GA (change ? to 3)
