this is a really hard question!!! xD
for what concerns video games, which is even more appropriate given what this awesome website's about, I'd go probably for Rydia, Rikku, Marle, Eirika, oh well.. Serah, Sierra (シエラ, I prefer to call her like that instead of Cierra), Red (quite a new character this one), Tifa, Chun-Li (always loved her), Jade (MK), oh well I could go on forever having started playing in the first half of the '90s.. anyways the first one that talking about video-games came up to my mind was Rydia followed by Rikku

For me it's either Umihara Kawase from the series of the same name, but that might be because I'm biased towards the games.
Or, there's Serious Sam from again the series of the same name, just because of the huge task he has at hand; saving humanity by defeating an evil alien in the past. You can feel for him as he's the last man on Earth in his reality in SS3.

Hmmm
I can give you my top three, it's difficult to name just one :P
Kiyotaka Ayanokōji from classroom of the elite (anime)
Hanibal from ...well, you know.
Tanja from The Saga of Tanya the Evil (anime)
I think I've got a thing for genius sociopaths...

If i can say from a game,I have to go with Gaunter O'Dimm from the Witcher 3,I've played a lot of games but no other villain stood out for me as he did, just a simple guy,a merchant of mirrors of some sorts,or simply a God as his acronym might suggest, who knows, but one thing is sure he is much more than that.

Ryu Hayabusa from a game series named Ninja Gaiden. The only action hack and slash game character that makes me want to be. His skills are so pure martial art and has beautiful moves. No need blink blink and bullshit abilities to look cool. You take off his ninpos and he is still able to save your ass.

It's either Eeyore (Winnie-the-Pooh books) or the Groke (Moomin books). Also maybe Eve from Jarmusch's Only Lovers Left Alive and Susan Ashworth from The Cat Lady. I can't really choose one, sorry.

The legendary Yamada Tae....
Ok, bad references aside, it's got to be Santa Claus, not sure any fictional character will ever beat him in my mind :p

He/she/it can be from any fictional story, series, book, movie or even anime. I'm just in my nosy mood being 92.846% sleepy at the moment. :P
So, I'd love to know. Please share.
Edit- After some consideration, I'm kind of torn between Iczer-3 (anime) and Apropos of Nothing (book).
