I just saw a notice on one of my videos on youtube. On a side note I haven't edited anything yet since I have no time to do it but I keep them uploaded for later use since I won't have space on my drive. One of my videos got this copyright claim:

Content: Rain Shower (feat.Jang Ho Young) - Rain Shower (feat.Jang Ho Young)
Claimant: Loen Entertainment

It's supposed to be here https://youtu.be/Urm6GU23C38?t=7384 from 2:03:04 to 2:03:40(in case the link doesn't start at the exact time)

For those who don't want to check the link it's rain sounds from Skyrim, what's going on here? Has anyone encountered this exact thing? Or something similar? I'm not using mods for rain(I think). Just thought it might be funny someone is trying to copyright rain sounds.

I got something similar on How To Survive. It is obvious it's not copyright claim but usually I just leave it be.

Would be funny if every video about a game that has rain sounds gets this.

Copyright claims are made by an algorithm on YT that analyses the sound and video data and compares it to a gigantic library of claimed content. it is actually a pretty interesting piece of engineering, considering how fast it is.
But it means it is an algorithm and it makes mistakes. And apparently there is a video clip out there with a rain sound somewhere in it that a Korean company claims.

  • From someone who occasionally uploads music (often sampled music) to YouTube, I can definitely understand the frustration with YouTube's automatic copyright-matching system... (e.g. I could upload a song from the 70's , and sometimes YouTube will attach copyright to it from a random Soundcloud producer who sampled the song I uploaded... -_- lol).
  • In a lot of cases, you should be able to dispute the copyright claim and get it removed though! Unfortunately, the process takes about a month, but whoever oversees that dispute process is usually pretty agreeable (in my experiences anyway)

I was considering it but since I'm not doing it in a serious manner yet I guess I will just leave it be, thanks. Can't imagine what it is like for youtubers like you who uploads lots of content.

Had same issue with video on our company channel. Copyright claim based on a purchased sample from some generic database that was used as part of the soundtrack for one of our videos.

The thing is we do not monetize our videos so now we are getting ads that annoy our viewers and of course the company with claim is taking their sweet time.

I hope I won't have any problems with disputes when I decide to start editing and uploading videos. Hope you had no problems with disputes!

Hi, I make uploads of different kind of stuff on Youtube - including DJ mixes and music/sound compilation from games.

Unfortunately, unless you actually made the sound/song, you can't win over copyright claim... Trying to do so might get you copyright strike.
And that system makes about well... 5% of mistakes. I guess.

Number of copyright claims/violations: 71.
Blocked in 242 countries* and some devices.
Can't earn on video.

That's really unfortunate, sorry to hear, I literally get copyright claim on any game video I upload that includes music, first time I see one on ambient sounds though.

Yeah, that's why people overuse NoCopyrightSounds and similar music released on Youtube, you can hear it anywhere.
Or, in-game, most indie devs have music from Kevin MacLeod - https://incompetech.com/

Hak Do Byung's song Rain Shower starts off and ends with just rain sounds that sound similar to what you can hear in the game, I guess that's why the YT algorithm has picked up on it but I'd just dispute the copyright claim because it obvioiusly doesn't apply in this case. Loen Entertainment does hold the copyright of the song but that's about it and the song isn't used in the video nor the game so it's 100% a false claim by the system.
