EA/Origin accounts are called the same thing, but you don't need Origin to play the game. Origin does auto-detect the game though.

You need to get your account info back, not buy another copy of the game. Talk with EA support and prove you own that game. -.-

I bought it on Steam back in July of last year, and I activated it with an Origin account as prompted when I tried to launch the game.
But now that I reinstalled the game, it asks me to re-activate it with my Origin account, which I forgot the email/password to.
Would making a new account on Origin and buying a key for the game elsewhere allow me to play it?
I don't care about the old account since that was the only game I had on it.
