And history repeats

Edit: It could be removed because licensing expiring of the collectible playboy magazines in game and the licensed music, but when Mafia 2 was in pre-order it have Mafia 1 has a pre order bonus, maybe they will do the same with Mafia 3.

Thanks to The End and Boltok for the info.

since we are here, does any1 know why does this happen and to Mafia 1 too, at first i tought it was because of the licensed music, but then GTAs should get the same treatment, one would guess that the prelude time to a new installment would be the best time to sell the "old" games.

I believe it does happen to the GTA games - wasn't San Andreas recently patched to remove a bunch of songs?

Comment has been collapsed.

Some time ago GTA:VC was temporary taken off store. After that R* released new version with cutted some songs. Old players have all songs as they buy but newly players has cutted version.

For GTA:SA Rockstar wasn't good like that, they just released patch which cut songs for all players.

And they may release DLC to add original music back (for San Andreas).

(It was added to steam database sometime ago)

Oh, interesting. Looks like I still have one from the Humble 2K bundle. The city was a ghost town, but I think it was a good game. Just don't expect an open world full of things to do... :)

i got that from the game too, much like LA Noire wondered why was an open world game, for collectables i guess.

Played a bit of it but soon dropped it. I'll probably go back to it before Mafia 3 comes out.

No idea why it would be purchased disabled though. If it was a licensing thing, it would have been just removed. Purchase disable is usually done when the future of the game is not 100% certain such as legal limbo or a remastering is coming.

If it makes you feel any better, it's unlikely Mafia 2 keys will become very expensive anytime soon. New in box copies costs ~5-7€ (+shipping), and come with a steam key.

Mafia 1 was incredibly good, far better than Mafia 2 (apart from 2 very nasty difficulty spikes). It's worth tracking down a boxed copy, they go for ~1-3€ (but don't come with steam keys).

I'm catching the 'movie playthrough' video on YouTube as we speak, it looks GREAT!

I seriously enjoyed Mafia II so I might very well try and track down a boxed copy, shame it can't get bolted onto Steam though.

Thanks for the info!

I remember playing it when I was a little kid. But I tried playing it after Mafia 2... The controls... Games with overwhelmingly negative reviews caused by controls still have better controls than that game... I couldn't get past the intro, I guess I got spoiled by games with controllable mouse movements and modern stuff like controller support.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Are you mainly talking about the driving controls (it's due to them that you have the two difficulty spikes, one being right at the very start of the game) or the controls in general? I played Mafia 1 at around the time Mafia 2 was released, and I don't remember having any issues with the controls, apart from when it came to driving (and sadly, the game starts with a driving sequence, which is unreasonably hard compared to where in the game it is set).

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, when driving the camera had a REALLY awkward field of view and the mouse was way to sensitive. The mouse could be fixed, but that horrible FoV was breaking the game for me. I might give it a chance if it gets some kind of remake or a patch with controller support like GTA: SA got.
Anyway, the games are way too good looking for their times, the atmosphere in Mafia 2 is 11/10, it's by far the most immersive game I've ever played. Too bad I can't get into the first one.

I'm not going to say anything about it being unlikely/nigh impossible (even though it looks like that right now), because I've been proven wrong so many times in this regard. System Shock 2? Released. The Goldbox series? Release. Eye of the Beholder? Released. Shadow of the Horned rat? Released.

Its not bad at all, it's the opposite, Mafia 1 is the most expensive removed game and is very unusual to see someone with it.

And to think it used to be only $2.5 during sales...

It's high prices really does not make much sense though. Sure, it's a great game, and it has not been on steam for quite some time, but it's a rather common game outside of steam. Currently people are paying more for steam versions of Mafia than they are for many actually rare (and great) games

Meh, whatever. I have the Director's Cut (base game + all DLC) on 360 and found the game very boring. Only played it for a couple of hours, but the city is just completely lifeless. It seems like a sandbox game, but its really just a linear game about despicable people being cruel and selfish. I'd rather have a game where you get to take down the mafia.

Does not always pay to hold out and wait for sales you may miss the game or dlc as it could be removed at anytime.Though i do not know that the one dlc could be purchased from Russia not that it matters i played it before on console so not missing much but would got it anyhow just for the sake of having it all well.

Though the game could be back as i am sure it more less a music license issue then actually having the rights to the game and so forth. They may be removing them instead of doing what they did with GTA SA and just patched them out for everyone.

Though some are going to think now it going to be worth a lot even it does not come back, but the truth of it is unless you actually have a steam gift usually just plain keys are not worth much,as gifts are worth more.Key are worth less well it should be obvious why.

Either way so far by the looks of 3 this series is done for imo
