Should I buy Skyrim or wait until it's on sale? Or is it not worth it?

I've played Oblivion and got far, but never beat the game. I stuck to side quests more than the main quest.

What did you guys think of it? Better than Oblivion? (I don't care for the graphics, I care for gameplay)

I gave up on Skyrim after 10 hours. Boring as fuck.

Oblivion was better, I even finished that with ~50 hours on the clock.

I should get Morrowind and see for myself is that any better than newer installments, since pretty much everybody are praising it to be some kind of demigod, but that worries me. Every time something is praised to the heaven, it tends to be repetitive, boring and have shallow storyline.

you won't like morrowind, the fact that you finished oblivion in 50 hours means that you didn't saw much of the games side quests which are the atrativeness of the ES. morrowind is "much more booring" than both of the new streamlined sequels

Morrowind is my favorite, but you indeed need to do some long grinding first before the game gets you emerged!

personaly skyrim has much better gameplay than oblivion. the main direference is that magic in skyrim is awesome while in oblivion you would need a lot of patience to learn how to use it effectevely.
Personaly i also thought that the main quests are too small when compared to oblivion. in fact i think skyrim quests needed a bit more filler to build "momentum" to their storyline.
Where skyrim really trumpts oblivion are the sidequests which are very very good and the dungeons which are very varied in skyrim.
In short if you liked oblivion you will like skyrim however if you didn't like oblivion much i doubt skyrim will convert you to ES fan. for me it's a game where i can live the fantasy of living in a believeable world. there's a lot of mythos in books, a lot of side quests that i have to discover. An interestin example is reading a book about a warrior and his feats and then a few dozen hours later finding his tomb. it's those little details where ES series shines.
P.S. skyrim has already a lot of mods, i haven't tried much but i'm sure there are some good mods ou there so do take a look at them if you buy the game.

Wat? The dungeons are no more varied than Oblivion dungeons...

oblivion has 4 types of dungeons. If i remember correctly skyrim has at least 6 diferent types. also most skyrim dungeons have either a quest or a great treasure linked to them while in oblivion you have some dungeons that are "filler" , also some dungeons in oblivion are exact replicas of each other difer only on the enemies. we both have around 100 hours in skyrim, I still just have one char and i'm still seeing new stuff. i haven't even used mods yet. i wonder how can you have the same opinion on skyrim and oblivion...

Fair enough. It could just be rose tinted glasses making Oblivion seem so good, but I found dungeon diving on Skyrim more monotonous and boring after a while than I did in Oblivion.

I plan on buying Morrowind and Oblivion in the summer sale so we'll see.

Is Skyrim worth it to rebuild your computer to make it work on it?
You decide!

It's worthy only if you don't mind not having social life (you'll need more than 200 hours to get 100%)

I think it's good, haven't played the other Elder Scrolls games, but Skyrim is a brilliant game!

Nope. One of the most boring experiences. The game is supposed have exploring as it's main theme and can't get that right. The world, the story and the NSCs are just so uninteresting and overall "meh" that I don't even wanna go out and explore. Combat is clunky and unintuitve. Yeah, you can mod it, but I wouldn't pay for a product in the first place that I need to mod to be bareable.

didn't scroll. pretty sure many have suggested to wait for the legendary edition. personally, i never played any elder scrolls series before Skyrim and i effing love the game. I'm on Morrowind now and can see why ppl prefer it over Skyrim but hey, fun is fun. it's of your own interest. I think you're gonna love it anyway without thinking too much. again tho, legendary edition.

To be honest for me, only single player games aren't worth to buy.

Not much improvement over Oblivion and the game is very shallow. It could be enjoyable if you are a larper, but not much outside of that, and even if so, there are better games to do so. If you want to play TES series, go with Morrowind if you haven't already, it's a good game and the best in the series (you might also want to try Daggerfall). Other than that... don't touch TES games with a stick.

If you just want open world cRPG then go with Arcanum, Fallout (1, 2 and New Vegas), Gothic (1 and 2) and Risen (1 and 2, though the second one is quite linear). Especially Arcanum and Fallouts, they are great.

Wait until you can get the complete edition for $10 or less. You'll be waiting years, honestly, but there are so many better games out there that I don't think waiting will be an issue.

Morrowind>Skyrim>Oblivion. You want a good game, get morrowind and beat it. Skyrim x10 because of all the extra options, weapons, armors. You said yourself gameplay over graphics and morrowind's graphics are worse, but gameplay is WAY better, and ot's under half the price. Skyrim's too simple, but morrowind has more. Either way though, yes Skyrim is worth it. It's already $40 so that should be on sale enough for you.
