My KOBO GLO e-book reader just died yesterday. A moment of silence please.

Now that we are done, i am thinking what to buy now? These 6 i am considering about, the main requirement is the background light. If i am correct all these are supporting epub and MOBI as well.

Anyone who has experience with the mentioned devices?

Honestly, any android tablet can double as a more than capable e-reader anymore. I'd pick up one of the Galaxy Tab flavors and be done with both categories.

those who tell that a tablet is as good for reading as e-readers, never used an e-reader probably...

I have, actually. I've owned a few Kindles over past years. And since getting a full spec tablet I regret wasting my money on them when the tablet does everything the readers did and more.

i dunno. for reading it is much better than watching an LCD for longer time... and for anything else i have a Honor 8 mobile + a PC :)

Well, then I wish you luck on support. There's been amazing decline in interest in e-readers over the past three years, and analysts believe the device will generally cease to exist within the next 10 in favor of tablets. So unless you buy "big name" like Amazon, chances are you're going to get a "last ditch economic viability" device with support that will vanish in the next few years as companies move away from the e-reader and just make tablets.

I seriously doubt that its gonna be phased out in 10 years.
The reason I bought the reader is because I love to soak up the sun and read. LCD does not let me do that, while these ereaders do.
Although I don't anymore, I used to read in the dark as well, which is much safer on your eyes on these ereaders than a LCD screen tablet.

Serious readers like these eink displays. And as long as there is demand, there will always be someone supplying these to meet the demand.

If you like reading in the sun, then E-ink is still the way to go. Reading in the dark though is no issue at all with modern LCD screens, since you can turn down the light so low that it's almost black. Things have changed, and if you're LCD device is still too bright you can solve it with software like Lux Auto Brightness (for Android).

When it comes to compatibility and convenience, most E-ink readers are really crippled. Finding one that supports all formats (including epub), allows you to order your book library in nested folders (author\books), can word-wrap PDF files, etc, was very difficult when I looked for an ebook reader for my mom a few years ago. Eventually I bought an iRiver Story HD which was much better in these aspects than other devices at the time. It served her well, but she's now using a 6.8" Lenovo phone for everything (including reading books) and it's a very serious upgrade. She doesn't read in the sun though.

I went this route as well. The biggest advantage a dedicated device has other a tablet is battery life.

Calibre to manage my library on my computer, Moon+ Reader as my reading app on the tablet and Ivona for TTS so I can keep up with my reading when I'm at work

Paperwhite is really leagues ahead of others.
I do wish that there were ereaders that came in larger size though.
6 inches is fine, but 8 would be much better.

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 2 does not support epub. It only supports mobi and pdf. I have a pw2 since April 2014. I am an avid reader and my pw2 still works though its battery dies faster after 2 years.

Paperwhite does not support .epub. I own one, and have to convert files to .mobi or .azw3 before I put them on the reader. It only takes 10 seconds on Calibre though, so I wouldn't say its an issue.

I think you mean kindle voyage or this one: https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Kindle-Paperwhite-6-Inch-4GB-eReader/dp/B00OQVZDJM
You can easily check amazon. Still not supporting epub.

As far as I know, it's very easy to convert them to Amazon's format from epub.

Wait, do newer Kindles support epub? I have the old one (without touch screen and backlight) and it can read only mobi.
