I just tried inserting an IndieGala gift link into a giveaway and I got an error saying that only Steam or Humble Bundle gift links are allowed. Why is that? It would be nice if I could insert IndieGala gift links as well.

There was some explanation about it months ago, but the short version is that they are not accepted.
Sadly. I'd like them to work too.

That's unfortunate. I had to add the gift ID in the Key section and explain in the giveaway description where the winner needs to insert that ID.

I had this problem, here is how I solved it:
Access the gift url and then where it asks you for your email write another adress you have access to.
Check the email they sent you and reveal the steam key. There, you have a regular steam key that you can now enter on the giveaway page

That's a good interim suggestion if you don't want to deal with the winner's email.

You don't need another email address.
You can simply open on "Here's your gift link X". Simply opening that and clicking on the steam button will reveal the steam key that you can use in the GA.

Honestly from a developer's perspective I don't understand why the field can't accept any known gift link format. It's just pattern matching. This should be a really easy thing for the site to implement.

I'm not looking for alternatives here. There are plenty of them, but I want to use IndieGala's gift system.

Didn't someone post that they copied the giftlink code at the end of the url and inserted that in the key field of the GA, then told the winner to add that code to the rest of the first part of the url?

So www.blahblah.com/giftlink?=code gets chopped up into the part ending in = and the code...

Yeah, I did that. But it would be better if I could actually paste the link without having to go through all of that.

Bump because this is really annoying. I just had to go through 10 giveaways adding the ID in the key field and explaining where the winner should insert that in the description. Please fix this.

Agreed. It is annoying indeed. I wish it is fixed some day too. If they made a poll, almost everyone would want it.

I just follow the link and paste the winner's email address. And I write check-your-email in the key field.
But yeah, I think this should be implemented cause I'd rather not uncover the key myself.

So, it is not a solution that I choose "Gift", and send the IndieGala gift permalink to the winner?
I don't know that IG send on that link, that's why asking :)

Or is it a violation against SteamGifts rules? :D

It's a viable solution. As far as I know it is not against Steamgifts rules.

+1 too :3
I give IG a lot when I catch a happy hour, and I like to use their gift system, so really wish IG links can be use as key like humble links.

Workaround is here.

Not very different from what I was doing. I put the ID in the key field and tell the winner where he needs to insert it in the description.

I wasn't aware that you can just post the ID. I thought SG only accepts properly formatted Steam keys and Humble links. That makes things even simpler :-)

You can put anything in the key field, as long as it doesn't have spaces (or any special characters other than "-") and it's not a link that isn't from HB or Steam. :)
