Girls play games as well. And not like there aren't dating games for us guys as well.
Though ours are more about the bits after that. :P

Like Hatoful Boyfriend?
I don't play that stuff, but that one seems to be well known.

Why for girls only? Gender discrimination!
MLB Powerpros and Baseball Superstars have some dating sim elements that are kind of fun. Not exactly the same thing, I realize.

Well, guys can play Otome games, but they are intended for females, as you play as a female character that is trying to get a boyfriend. Not many guys want to lose their Man Card that way.

NO ONE takes my Man Card away. As far as I'm concerned, that shit is lifetime membership.

Where do you see for girls ONLY? It is made specially for girls.... doesn't mean a guy can't play it. I often play "guy" games also... or is this not allowed :P?

Shhh! I don't want them to take my Man Card away!
I struggle with these games -- at least the few I've played, which have been browser-based in which the main character is a guy. I always try to get ALL the girls. Not sure if it's just not possible or I lack the necessary skills.

I been playing video games since the 1980s, and I never even heard the term Otome before. I guess you learn something new everyday.
EDIT: But I played games where I was a female character, and the story would have you falling in love with a guy. The same as I have read books when the main character is a female and has romantic interests in a man. For example, Moon Dance and Vampire Moon, about a wife with a family, who turns into a vampire and becomes a detective. Very good storyline. I try not to limit myself to only playing games or reading books where the main character is a male.

I like to read books like that, but i enjoy much more to have an influence on the story. I am a sucker for different endings. A shame that steam as very little games/VN like this. The only one i know is Magical Diary. I have seen Desura has a few tho. Even a few that are free like Ristorante Amore.

I'm currently playing Hakuoki, my first otome. I can join but I don't yet know whether I'm a long term fan.

Hakuoki isn't that the one on the PSP? I really loved the storyline on that one, it sometimes was a bit too much reading, but i couldn't put it away and continued reading and i wanted to finish it in my vacation time. One tip, don't play the sequel to it... it is very disappointing and has nothing to do with the first part. It became some strategic battle game.

Correct, PSP. Thanks for the info on the sequel, I hadn't looked into it at all.

I noticed there isn't any decent Otome games group on steam, so i created one myself. It's a public group, so please join if you are interested in these type of games.
Otome games are all about romance games for girls available in English on various platforms (PC, Mac, iPhone, Android, PSP).
