Instead of the usual puzzles, there is a maze at http://www.gnut.co.uk containing SteamGifts giveaways.

This maze has 25 regular prizes found just by exploring.
There is another prize for reaching the exit and there are 3
additional prizes (one for each difficulty level) for reaching the exit carrying
all 10 'Valve' themed items found in the maze.

All prizes are SteamGifts private giveaways (ending 29th Feb @ 23:55).

Woah, that's really cool.

So... everytime you pick a direction you're supposed to stumble into a cave? I'm not really getting this.

Just bad wording or interpretation on my part I guess. You could say the "caves" are the walls.

This was very interesting. The F.A.Q. made me smile, too.

I found a giveaway and a code. But I don't want the game. If I change my mind later, do I just memo the code for now and use it later?

1 decade ago

I found a second giveaway, but I noticed that I'm not getting points. They don't give you points?

1 decade ago

You get points by finding objects.

Got 4 so far, nice idea for a giveaway. P:
got a portal gun xD

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That helped me a bunch, in case I ever get lost I can portal back to a known point.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

how? I don't know how to use that thing :S

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Simplest way I've found to use the Portal gun is to go to a known location and shoot both portals (click orange and blue buttons next to the gun).

Then to go back to that spot: shoot one portal (orange or blue button next to gun) then click to go through the portal (enabled button next to icon of guy entering/exiting portal).

Lastly reset the portals when at your known good spot by pressing orange and blue next to the gun again.

I've only came across one portal I specifically avoided once I realised what it was and put a special marker on my map for it.

Wait, so are those the shimmering doors?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Shimmering doors? Haven't encountered those, the portals I've found say the door looks "strange", not shimmering.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Okay, my bad. Guess I misremembered. Thanks.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

At one point they did say shimmering doors.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Some shimmered, some were glowing but making them all strange meant less typos. :)

Well it's late and I am guessing I have only mapped like 1/5th of this maybe, to continue tomorrow then!

Thank you so much for doing this!

I was making my map assuming every movement is 1 unit, looks like I was wrong. My map is getting confusing and confusing. @_@

I remade my map, and it became a consistent perfect grid. :D The weird doors were the main problem.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So, no crossing paths or anything? Because i have quite a lot of those on 1st level, yet i avoided weird doors.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you do it correctly, and consider teleports, nothing should overlap.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

So what program is everyone using to map the maze? Just Paint?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep, just paint, though I assume you could use something else if you wanted to make it look fancier.

I used photoshop. 15 possible room combinations, each one is a different layer, all layers are the same size, I then keep the base copy of each layer as a working palette to the right of my workspace and copy and paste layers into the middle to match which room I'm in. worked pretty well and was pretty efficient since you can use keyboard shortcuts to do it all.

What happens if I start from another PC? Will my progress continue from the last place I was? Will I start from the 1st place? Is there even a 1st place or is it random?

If you put in the same character name and code at the creation screen, you'll start from where you left off.
