Seems I'll have to look into modding, I remember hearing this game can be a little touchy, do mods help any with that?

I actually am grateful about this. I usually stay away from mods as I like to play the games as the creators intended (though nowdays I've begun playing restoration mods). This said you made me want to dig out my F:NV savegames and actually go and finish the game (I still have to do 3 of the 4 DLCs)
