As a bit of a horror snob, I wasn't completely impressed with Outlast despite it's atmosphere and visuals. Way too many cheap jump-scares for my liking, and a faint feeling of wasted potential, y'know?

Oh yeah, definitely. Anything above average in the horror genre is worth it. While it does have quite a few jump scares (causing a flood of immediate 10/10 "soscary" votes), underneith that is something that does build some pretty good tension. Visually it's pretty strong even though it does suffer the "endless corridors without colour" syndrome at times.
It's pretty much because I'm a horror snob and having been able to play the original Silent Hills when they were fresh has kinda spoiled me. It didn't stop me from buying the Whistleblower DLC though, haha. Whoever gets it will probably be way happier than I was, so hooray for spare keys <3
