A sequence of hills in the final 30 kilometers, including the Côte de Mutigny, could launch a victorious attack before the finish in Épernay. Or the stage could end in a bunch gallop if the sprinter's teams hold the race together.
Winner: Julian Alaphilippe
Originally, Binche lace was similar to lace made in Valenciennes. Lace was indeed imported from the French Hainaut in the early 17th century. Differences were introduced with time and the lace of Binche became renowned for its extreme finesse – the threads are extremely thin and are never cut. The result is the enchanting aspect of the lace. Extremely popular before the French Revolution, the Binche lace became famous internationally and Victor Hugo himself mentioned it in Les Miserables.
