I recommend posting the specs for your friend's laptop to /r/lowendgaming. Also would be nice to know what games he's into.

I can personally recommend Cook, Serve, Delicious!, FTL: Faster Than light, Heat Signature, and Hexcells. All of those should definitely run on any old hardware.
