aaah i bought this one but haven't played it yet. good to know it can be endured if you're not really into horror, that'll move it up in the backlog cos i... am also a scaredy cat. Observer freaked me the heck out, and there's not even jump scares in that one.

i haven't gotten far enough in Observer to reach the (allegedly) two "run for your life" bits, it is apparently really freaking hard to die in that game, BUT they have instances where this monster just... crosses a doorway in front of you and at that point it doesn't really matter what you've read on the internet, if you can hide at that moment you would. so yeeeeeeeah be ready for that if you ever get around to it. otherwise the game is really laid back and pretty and Rutger Hauer is of course an absolute delight as always, but the mindhack portions are freaky deaky.

i am installing WOH right now! turn-based will make it much easier to deal with, ty for the info :D

I played Observer just recently, and "survived" a whole playthrough. I'm much like you guys, and don't like horror either, but can say that it's bearable. I did die in one section a couple of times, but other than that it's pretty tame as far as difficulty/horror turning you into an illogically scared person who can't think straight. I won't be playing it again any time soon though! I will be trying some other similar games cos it has made me interested in the genre. I've been recommended Layers of Fear.

Layers of fear are from the same developer and I have enjoyed them both! I have played Observer two times and Layers of fear like five, six times (38 hours of playtime). Have to say though that Layers are much more scarier... truth is that I get scared easily I think. XD Both of them are psychological horror, but Observer is more about anxiety and distrust and so.
Just my two cents though, have fun if you decide to try it. I have really enjoyed both games! :)

Yeah, I enjoyed the cyberpunk style as well on Observer, that's what sucked me into the game initially.

I can do games like INSIDE and creepy puzzlers/point-and-clicks/turn-based stuff, but if there are moments where it relies on your reactions or ability to run away I get stressed.

Another good scaredy-cat horror game is The Letter, a visual novel with excellent writing. It has real-time events that kill you, but you can turn them off.

i tried INSIDE last week! i have a major issue with being the Hunted Party and totally freaked out so had to stop playing like ten minutes in, but that's from my own issues and not a reflection of the game itself. the use of color (or lack thereof) was done really well tho, i was impressed under all the terror.

nifty, thanks for the rec! i've added it to my ITAD list so next time i've got cash to spend i'll get it :D

I can't enter this but it's ok, I just wanna comment this giveaway stood out to me. I remember when it was still in development, found it was so intriguing from the aesthetic to the upcoming gameplay. It's cool you're giving it away, I don't think many people know (from SG at least) know about this one.

And really? You think scaredy cats can play this too? I really don't do well with horror games, triple-A or indie πŸ˜‚

Gone Home got to you?!!? Hahaha but I get what you mean. I've finished that game & definitely gave me the creeps too at certain parts. It is literally a walking sim in a quiet, dark, and empty house πŸ˜… Have seen the Suicide of Rachel Foster game, but not Siren: Blood Curse - gonna check that out to see what the fuss is about πŸ‘€ And definitely, World of Horror has definitely unique & interesting gameplay..

And woah, I didn't know you had me on your WL. Idk why people add me but it's cool, thank you. I'll add you back to mines too. And it's ok you don't have to that! I know you're coming from a place of generosity but I'll get to level 2 on my own at some point no worries πŸ‘πŸ»

By the way, I'm sorry for this late reply, I've been unwell and busy this week so apologies for that ^^

I've had this one on wishlist for quite a while now, has a heavy Junji Ito vibe to it.

Shouldn't ever feel bad for giving a gift. It doesn't have to be the biggest to bring someone lots of joy and enjoyment. Hopefully the winner enjoys horror. :p

Early in the year I went to my library and got me some Junji Ito (manga with a similar style to this game) after seeing it recommended alongside WORLD OF HORROR. Based on the demo, the art and soundtrack seem incredible! Glad to hear you enjoyed it & thanks for sharing a copy. :)
