A VN with an interesting premise that was unfortunately discontinued, so there will only ever be one episode.

Great taste! :P
That was actually my very first VN and what introduced me to anime culture as a whole. It definitely has a place in my heart.

Isn't Dysfunctional Systems free on the developer's website?

You're right - I knew they eventually cancelled the series, but not that they shut down and released all their assets. I took a look at the steam page and they seem to still be selling it, so I assumed they were still somewhat functional.

I rarely play VN's (find most of them boring), but one that I remember the most it One Thousand Lies.

9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors. AKA the first half of Zero Escape: The Nonary Games. It's not the most traditional of visual novels, since there are room escape puzzles integrated into the gameplay, but there's a lot more novel than room escape puzzle, so I'm counting it. It's also made by the same guy who wrote Ever 17, so if that doesn't make it qualify as a VN, I don't know what does.
