There is a calculator which lets you find out how many camels is your girlfriend/boyfriend worth. I don't know why it specifically calculates the value of your significant other, but surely you can use it to calculate your own value as well. I am apparently worth 65 camels and I'm not sure how should I feel about that.

When measuring worth in animals and goods was a widespread thing, a strong male would be worth more than a strong female purely because they can be physically more useful. Be it as a bodyguard, a farm hand or whatever else.

Well, it's based on a stereotype and probably a few actual occasions, in which Northafrican/Middle-East men wanted a (tourist) girl/woman from Europe. Since camels are a valuated commodity there, these were offered as exchange/as a status symbol.
Nowadays you would just use this as a tease in times you are arguing with your girl (e.g. "I should have taken the offer of [insert number here] camels instead of keeping you"). It's also sometimes used by parents towards their kids, if they misbehave.
