Dark Souls is the game that comes to mind. It was really engaging and had great atmosphere. While it is a bit hard it is completely worth the effort needed to beat it.

Unique game? I would say "Puzzle Quest" is pretty Unique and a nice mixture of rpg/puzzle games. Had hours of fun with both parts.
