I'm not going to deny that there are good looking people over here (one just needs to take a trip down to the store to be likely to spot at least a handful), or anywhere else for that matter, it's just that there are also a lot more people here who are not very good looking (and I really don't know how to phrase that without it sounding rude, but there are just so many who don't take care of themselves and I really wish I could say that I was an exception to this), so the average is relatively low, at least comparatively.

It's funny, I've had my labcoat since right at the start of my education, and kept on using it since, and the only stains on it are from parties. I have some yellow stains on it from glow-sticks, some minor wine stains (not my fault, I don't even drink wine) and some I've not been able to identify, yet I've not spilled anything nasty on it in the lab, so no holes, no discoloration or anything of that nature.
Labcoats are incidentally the best party wear there is, it won't really matter if you spill things on it as they are easy to clean, big pockets mean that you can stuff things like bottles in them and if it gets hot, they are easy to remove.

I have a set of identical lab glasses as well! I guess it's a popular type.
Luckily we did not actually have to bring our own labcoats, the one I had was just given to me (and every other chemistry or biochemistry student) by a company trying to advertise themselves to the new students, and they also supplied the uni with a lot of labcoats. It's just that the ones that are already in the lab tend to show clear signs of use (and small funny), so I really did not want to lose mine

I think I've lost track of the amount of times I've got high on thinks in the lab :( Ether is probably the most common culprit, as the common types evaporate quite quickly (in particular if you warm it with your hands), and there always seemed to be someone who forgot to cover their beaker. Ether gives a really nasty headache. Still, I think I fared better than some, during my first year one of the senior students told me about how he once had a 5h memory gap where the lab was supposed to have been due to ether.

I think we have different thoughts about having a tough skin. For me it's more about telling some to shut up when it's reasonable. Of course not apllying this to your jokes or anything, but I had people I don't know crossing the line. I might laugh the first time but if I see a pattern they get what they deserve.

I grew mine out for the first time in like 2003, because of my enjoyment of metal and fantasy fiction, seriously. I've had it trimmed since then but never gone completely beardless and I used to hate the "hipsterization" of beards but in general I'm glad more men have taken to wearing one.I know that when the trend passes I'll still be a proudly-bearded man.

My facial hair grew pretty damn slowly until my mid-20's, which was especially useful in the military. And since I got a lot of sun back then, what did grow in was very light in color, so I could easily shave every other day. Sometimes longer. Conversely, I know a couple of guys that could shave twice a day and it still looked like they hadn't shaved in a couple of days. Most of the time, I keep a light growth that's closely trimmed, so its neat and tidy, but I don't have to actually shave.
