I have played 12 games and gotten only 2 items, why?

How can I improve my drop rate and how do experienced DotA2 players have so many items?

If any-one has any spares, please can I have them?

You get an item drop after you level up. If you want to level up, you can only play games. Additionally, you can get an battle bonus, that gives every player in a match extra xp.
