Not sure how secure a QR sign in thing is.

Same security as before? You need to sign in so only difference now you use QR instead of looking at numbers.

Instead of using a number timing based 2FA you can scan a QR code on your screen and hit accept. With the FBI warnings about malicious QR codes being on the rise I am surprised Valve when with those. It isn't like you can read it just with our eyes.

Well, steam app can easily see whether it is valid or not after decipher the QR code?

Just updated and wow, this update blows. The whole app has become a laggy mess, it's showing me notifications that don't exist, and chat is gone for no good reason. This should have stayed in beta for at least a couple more months.

Ugh. Is there a way to revert back? The new update is horrendous. I suddenly got 150 notifications even though there is none. It takes more than 1 click just to go to the activity feed. All notifications look like a chat, and you need to press that x button if you want to move to other pages. And what are they doing asking for camera access although i'm not scanning qr.

Edit: found the friend activity button. Pressing it only goes to steam mobile app group. Great. Thanks for ruining tbe app for me, now i have to deal with that steam mobile browser that logs me out every day or so despite me clicking remember me.

Edit2: you need to install a new app just for steam chat. Thars the main reason im using steam app. I wonder if i should just uninstall this whole app....

Edit3: ok, found out that you can customize the bottom bar. That's neat. Like, that's the only neat thing about the update. Notifications needs to be fixed and chat needs to stay.

To revert back, you could try logging out of the new app and uninstall it. Then install the APK of the previous version of Steam Mobile (or APKs, if you also need the previous version of Steam Chat) and log back in. Most likely, you'll need to set everything up again.

I got the links for their APKs using the Internet Archive. The latest capture of their site was in September 17, 2022:
https://web.archive.org/web/20220917091107/https://store.steampowered.com/mobile

Steam Mobile APK: https://media.steampowered.com/apps/steam-android/steam-2.3.12.apk
Steam Chat APK: https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/apps/steam-chat/steam-chat-app-1.0.8.apk

Use with caution. If you don't know what an APK is, google "android apk" and how to set up your phone to install from APKs.
Also, remember to write down your Recovery Code before uninstalling the latest version, just in case.

I forgot to say, after the APK of the previous version is installed, you may want to disable automatic updates for that app in the Play Store app (in the 'manage your device and apps' list), so it won't get overwritten again by the new version.

Notifications are insane for me i had like 1700+ first time i logged in. They are still pretty pilled up and annoying.

Chat is still in the new update but annoying to get to it.

Ikr? Still hating the notification atm. Luckily, it seems that the app also helps with that automatic log out on the browser (it doesnt ask me to input my password when i logged in) so i can switch to the browser just fine. The chat though... i still cant use it. The browser version is just not optimized to mobile and the app always redirect me to either its chat app or the browser version.

I actually tried it before, but clicking the message button doesnt redirect me back to app - the chat opens in a browser instead.

I've been having issues with it for a while, wouldn't recommend

3rd party sites with Steam login don't work properly, trailers playing when I've left the store page, clicking a SG link to a store page and getting bright to a store page I visited earlier instead of the one I just clicked

So it no longer includes the chat and now I NEED to download that extra chat app just to have that functionality back, nice one Valve.
BTW, does anyone know how the multi account works now? Cos I had my two alts hooked to the app for confirmations and now I can't even find how to switch accounts anymore.

Edit: found how to add my other two accounts, now that I get how it works its actually better than the old app, still a bit bitter that I had to download an extra app just to get the chat back tho. The one thing that seems broken right now is that when I try to access the activity feed it sends me to the account settings page instead, I doubt that's intended to work that way.

Chat for me works only if i do a song and dance till i drop.
In app I click avatar, i click friends, i click friend i want to chat with, i click message button from his profile, i click a open with browser of your choice and it takes u in app again, i click friend avatar, i click << from right up corner, i have the chat open.

How long it will last who knows, cuz it is clear as day they are pushing for the separate chat app usage.

Had this update since beta was launched. Like the interface and a few functionality and accessibility on the main app.

The issues I've got is the logging in sometimes can act funny for me, when switching to the code, as it doesn't trigger in the browser that I've accepted to let me go though and the fact that the chat app could have been all in one place, but I can live with it either way, it's just strange.

Lastly, I find the notification section weird. I get notifications that I got something, but when I head there to check I can't determine what it is. It shows I've got a friend request, but there's nothing visible. I also can't seem to have it run smooth.

Overall, I like the UI change over the old one, I just want more optimizations and fixes across the issues people have with the app to come before the official launch was done.

Upgraded the app + Installed the Chat App. Already used the QR Code sign-in which is pretty cool.

Thanks for the heads up!

Best notification change: wishlist. Tapping the notification leads you to the notifications menu. Tapping that specific WL notification in there leads you to your wishlist without specifically saying which of your wishlisted games went on sale. Ofc you can sort your WL by discounted, but usually you would have several in there.

It always worked that way, and yes, it's a pretty dumb way of implementing it. If you want more precise info you need to use the email notification.

Didn't the old notification mention at least one of the affected games in the notification preview? But yeah, I usually just ignore that and look at the mail.

Not always, sometimes it only said that some games were on sale and that was all the info the notification gave. So it hasn't really changed that much if at all, at least as far as I can tell.

The old app was much much much much better for the chat feature alone. The separate chat app is terrible. It's a lot slower and doesn't show a detailed chat log. I'll likely end up only using the new app for the authenticator. I wish valve would've scrapped the chat app and integrated the old chat into the new app. I wouldn't even care if you can't use emojis or send pics, even without those the old chat was superior

Eh, I don't think I'll be updating anytime soon since Volvo got rid of the chat in the core app. I don't get why they want people to use a separate app for chatting, it's not convenient at all.
