I'm not much into anime but I'll look for Ghost in the Shell, as xxxcycero told you and also I will look for

1) Cowboy Bebop
2) Samurai Champloo (same creator these two)
3) Paranoia Agent (from Satoshi Kon, wich was possibly the best anime director. RIP)

In my personal opinion, a "must see" is:

"The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya"
"Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann" (I dislike the german dub...)
"Neon Genesis Evangelion" + "The End of Evangelion" (That ending... )

I second Cowboy Bebop, Baccano and Samurai Champloo.

I'd add FLCL, original FMA if you are wanting more (it's different but I do like both), Black Lagoon, Mushishi, Macross Plus (all english sorry, don't speak German)

May i ask why u can't enjoy them with subtitles?
I myself do not understand (much) Japanese but i can't watch without it cause the dubbed versions just sound wrong imo.
Anyways what kind of genre do you like? Fantasy, Horror, Mystery ... or maybe some Harem/Ecchi? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The general rule is you should always watch it in the original language because the English dubs are usually awful. Having said that there are some with enjoyable English dubs. I don't get to watch much even though I really would like to so I'm not the best person to offer recommendations. Googling best anime dubs will give you a few lists that have many of those posted in this thread already.

Though it may be somewhat mainstream, Cowboy Bebop might be a good idea and if you like that try Space Dandy (English Space Dandy has a number of cultural references not found in the Japanese and vice versa so it's worth watching both Eng/Jap).

Since nobody's mentioned them yet:

Yu Yu Hakusho
Fullmetal Panic/Fumoffu

I also want to second Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Steins Gate, Hajime No Ippo, and Baccano. They're all fantastic. I wouldn't advise the English version of Ippo though (don't know about German since I can't speak it). I thought the dub was preeeetty bad in that show's case. It's my personal favorite anime though, so still give it a shot if you're not super against subtitles.

I never really watch dubbed anime.

I also don't know Japanese when I start watching anime. But now I learned some Japanese words just by watching anime and I think it's really cool. Maybe one day you will start too. :)

Parasyte -the maxim-, haven't watched the dubbed version but it's an amazing anime :D

Berserk I very much recommend watching from ep 2 onward, not that ep 1 was bad or anything, but it kind off spoils the series, you are not missing anything from ep 1 as is a futurespective? (takes place long in the future after the series ending)

If I repeat, it just means I agree with the others; But I don't watch much in English sorry! So most of these are from TV.
