VAC and Game Ban enabled games can either be bought for your own account, or gifted immediately. They can no longer be saved to your inventory for trading purposes. If you gift a game to someone who gets permanently banned, you won’t be able to gift that game again.

I have a better idea, gaben, listen to me: when someone gets VAC banned, just propagate the VAC ban to the gifter of the game, oh, and also just in case, also VAC ban any player who played online with the cheater, oh and to anyone who chatted with him we can't be too careful!

Those large sale groups and other groups are probably good idea for propagation too.

do you mean, VAC ban any player who played online with the cheater, like party game, or just... ( cheater - solo qeue, then i solo queue then we get to play together, does that mean i get VAC banned, or only those who play like , Cheater has invited you to play, i joined we go together "as a party".. )

Ban orgy

That's not going NEARLY far enough. Valve needs to find the company that sold the game in the first place, wipe all their hard drives, and take 30% of all sales!

Oh, wait, they already do that last part.

SG need new rules: if you give VAC-protected game and winner have ban, creator can call reroll!

Or to make simpler, buy steam keys so you won't get banned at all no matter what.
This makes buying gifts from steam looks like a bad thing and people who abuse the system will simply buy keys if they can't buy gifts anyway which only punish genuine users.

ok, so i'm the only that tough in.....

1-make new account (just for trade / gift games)
2-you put money in that account on sales and buy just 1 copy of the game you can gift (or more copies and you gift them at same time)
3-the guy get vac banned and can't buy again the game?? (easy, just make another account and repeat the process)
4-enjoy the rape to Valve about that new stupid sistem :).

Not a cheater nor a trader. This new rules still managed to fuck me for giving free games.
At least ill be getting those games on grey sites instead of buying them on steam like i used to.

As ever, I think VAC itself is the problem - it's always felt like more of a marketing and control tool for Valve than a serious anti-cheat solution.

In a way though, I'm curious about the potential positives of this change. If this rule is to be applied to all VAC based games and the developer can't choose to opt-out, then perhaps some of them will do the right thing and opt out of using VAC itself and start looking for/developing more suitable anti-cheat systems.

Is it you can't gift a game if you gift it someone already banned or someone you gifted but who got banned later? I am sure you can't be blamed for gifting a friend who had a clean record at that point and he got a ban after he accepted your gift? How does it work now?

So wait, if you give away a game here and the winner gets VAC banned, you lose the ability to make future giveaways of that game?

Unfortunate.

I get the matter of people who are already banned (sort of, I get it as much as I get this nonsense) but we're punishing people now for stuff they didn't even do.

If you mean will they add a new batch of games at some point: Maybe.
If you're asking if it will ever work both ways and not just from Steam to GOG: No. I just don't see any incentive for Valve to do that.

VAC and Game Ban enabled games can either be bought for your own account, or gifted immediately.

How can you tell which games enable non-VAC game bans?

That is about VAC games, the new rule also applies to games that can give you non-VAC game bans..

I think that this currently applies only to CSGO because i can not buy a one more copy
other VAC games there is no problem
at least the ones I already have
Think that publisher decide about buy option and not valve

CSGO is ungiftable since Summer Sale.

It looks like it's not turned on for CSSource neither, which is Valve's VAC-game, so maybe they didn't started this whole thing yet.

way to go VOLV lol:

Game Ban enabled : ???? ²

I see what is happening here. People were buying CSGO for their alts and then hacking on them. They get vacced and repeat. Now they will have to go an extra step to get extra copies for their alts.

I remember Gaben saying a while back that most people who receive multiplayer games as a gift don't make it 10 hours in, so if people were actually going to play they would would just buy it for themself.

I see why people are pissed, but I'm happy that hackers are going to be risking their main account now if they are going to try to cheat.

Hackers are not going to be risking their main account, this ban does effectively nothing to stop hackers, only slows them down to literally the amount of time it takes to make a few new accounts to buy and cheat with..

But they would also need a new credit card right? Or at least a pain in the ass getting a gift card that you won't be able to spend all of.

It's extremely easy to get stolen CC numbers for extremely cheap, same goes for verified paypal accounts, afaik there isnt even a limit to how many accounts you can use the same CC or paypal account on.

Permalink

Which brings us to a nice feature:
VAC-wise connect accounts via CC / PP. Client of account distributor gets banned, so do all others.

But then there's PSC / bitcoin, and it all doesn't matter anymore :/

They are doing that, but for linked phone numbers. There are public numbers, but many of them are already VAC banned, and buying a new SIM card needs a bit more work than buying a few stolen card numbers on the deep web. (For one, they have to actually go outside to get the SIM card. :D)

I know. Neekoo's idea was rather "interesting" in this regard.
Not a real protection anyways, i.e. i could easily order a dozen sim cards for <1 buck a piece, directly from a provider.

Anyways, my money is already on some sort of HWID bans in the future.

Can someone explain the new policy to me because I'm a bit slow. Can we not save games into our inventory anymore? Also if you send it to someone who gets VAC Banned can you not buy the gift again??

Can we not save games into our inventory anymore?

Yes, but only for VAC or game ban enabled games (basically, most online multiplayer ones).

Also if you send it to someone who gets VAC Banned can you not buy the gift again??

Again, yes. They might say that this rule is meant to fight cheaters, but it's possible they actually made it for traders / resellers.

Glad I stopped trading years ago. When they did the region locking at least that made sense because the devs got less money, but this is stupid.

So if I bought someone a copy of Elite: Dangerous as a gift, and they got banned, I could NEVER give anyone that game again?

That's an oil tanker full to the brim with slurry!

And that's proof I shouldn't come up with my own insults...

Do you want to boycott Valve? Buy those games from other sources, so they won't get their cut.
You could also get better discounts, while you're at it!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That does sound pretty bad indeed.

Hopefully it doesn't work retroactively...

Like imagine you traded or gave away a copy of cs-go years ago , and get that restriction cause the guy got vac....

Also I can see a lot of resellers getting quite mad at this. Although that may be the main reason / target for this update....

A second-class citizen (no smartphone, oh the hacker/cheater/obvious scammer I am!) salutes you.

And it's only going to get worse. Valve is full with stupid ideas. And about zero love for the people they torture (their clients).

guess it kind of sucks for people who trade, as now someone using hacks and cheats and crap can get you blocked from trading that game.. I guess

Bad for traders/gifters, I guess it's good for the whole community as hackers will have more difficulty getting back into games they've been banned from..
