A simple and short question - does the Epic Game Store have a region lock/key lock or is it possible to activate keys from other countries as well?

Cause I thought about buying a Borderlands 3 key from Russia. Since I will buy it on Steam later again too (to play with my friend, who doesn't want to buy it on the EGS), I don't want to pay the full price from my region :D

Just skip it until march if you going to buy on steam anyway, don't tell me you can't find enough cool games until then, it is impossible to play all good and enjoyable games.

I don't know the exact answer but I doubt it is possible to bypass regions, but that site has soo many issues, perhaps it is possible there.

Since it looks like it's not possible, I'll wait anyway, haha. For now I have games on my list, but for none of them I'm as hyped as for Borderlands 3 😂

What makes you think it is not possible? I did a quick google search and found a lot about regional pricing, but basically nothing about actual region locks. Did you find any actual information on this?

Infos on 3rd party reseller sites have often proven to be inaccurate over the years. So I don't think regions listed on GMG, for example, are a true indication of a hard region lock implemented by their software.

The only way to find that out is to buy a cheap Russian key and try to activate it ... On the site where I would buy the Borderlands 3 key I can't find any cheap Russian keys for the EGS, haha. And I don't want to pay 30 € and in the end it's not even possible to activate it.

Do you know a site? :D

Thx for the link, but there's already a list of countries where I can activate the key and Austria isn't on it -_-

Steam/EGS need to support locking for the devs to activate it (HB is irrelevant here)

No apologies needed, it's fine. :)

Steam re-enables it a year after activation

It's actually 90 days. I know that because in Germany, as you probably know, certain games like Wolfenstein were difficult for a long time. So if you wanted the original game you had to import it. And region locks put in place by Steam definitely vanish after 90 days.

I think you can check regions on GMG - it look like key can be activated in most of countries (on the right, above "Game Information" you can find regions).

Hm, no Russia and no other countries where keys are cheap if I'm not mistaken -_- First I thought Turkey would be a good choice, but then I remembered Gearbox price policy in Turkey on their previous games.

Thx anyway :)

Hm, yesterday list of countries was a lot bigger for me. Now game page show only RU/CIS countries (I'm in RU region).

I wouldn't be surprised to see that Epic did the same change Steam did in August, locking the region to the paypal / card region. Maybe you weren't logged in when you had a look the first time ?

I'm sure that I was logged in and was w/o VPN (prices were in RUR and my VIP discount were applied). I can assume that they changed it or it was bug on my side :).

Wait for Steam and all the bugfixes. And a GoTY edition with the DLC. From what I hear, people aren't happy with the game and some consider it worse than the Pre-Sequal.

heck, if you're not buying legit anyway, why care?

Who says it's not legit? Maybe there are some sites which sell Russian keys legit - and if it would be possible for me to activate them, it would be legit.
Since I'm a fan of Borderlands, I don't care to pay for it, but like I mentionend, I don't want to pay the full price twice. So for now I think I'll only wait for the Steam version.

Not sure, but I've seen in cd key sites (like Kinguin, for example) that region locked Epic keys exist. So, I guess that you won't be able to activate a key that isn't in your region.

You don't need to rebuy it again on Steam. BL3 will have cross platform compatibility for Epic/Steam/consoles although the developers said it won't be available on day 1 of Steam release. So unless you absolutely want to play it right away with your friend you could just wait. It's probably going to be a buggy release anyway so I would wait before buying it on Steam.

"Right away" would only apply to me - I think my friend would even wait until the first sale to buy it on Steam.
Thx for the info :)
