Looking to build a new budget PC for gaming.

I've already selected the parts, just wondering if it's a good choice, and if anybody could recommend other parts which are for the same price and better then the ones i've chosen.

Motherboard: ASUS Z97-A ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 Processor 3.5 GHz LGA 1150

RAM: 8GB Dual Channel (4GBx2) KIT DDR3-1333 Crucial Ballistix Sport PC10600 CL9, With integrated Heat Spreader

  • was already adviced to change it with KINGSTON HyperX FURY Dual Channel KitDDR3 DIM / 1600MHz / CL10 / HeatSink

GPU: Gigabyte GTX760 GDDR5-4GB

Case: Cooler Master HAF 912

PSU: Cooler Master ATX 600W

Already have an SSD, Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Audio system, so no need for them.

My knowledge in hardware is limited,so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks ;)

No, get the Asus GTX 970 instead, it's about 70$ more but the performance difference is gigantic.

Also get rid of that memory, 1600 Mhz or higher, never 1333. Corsair Vengeance or Kingstone would be fine.

unfortunately i've already hit the limit. cannot afford 100$ more for GTX 970.

as for RAM, would this one be better ? KINGSTON HyperX FURY Dual Channel KitDDR3 DIM / 1600MHz / CL10 / HeatSink

Yes, that one is fine. Trust me, it's worth it, I've checked and the difference is actually even smaller, about 70$.

The performance difference really is MASSIVE, almost double the framerate. Whatever it is you need to do to get that extra bit of money, do it :)).

Gigabyte GTX760 GDDR5-4GB - is $340 in my country

Found only 2 models for GTX970 which are availalable at local retailers:

PALIT GeForce GTX970 - $450

MSI GeForce GTX970 - $625

I don't really trust PALIT, never heard about it before, but the MSI is +285$ more than GTX760, my budget can't afford it.
So i doesn't look real for me to get a GTX970. And yeah...my country suck's, i know...

Hmm, I see, have you thought about a 290? It hits Titan/GTX 970/780 performance and those have been going on sale for about 760 prices(Friend just grabbed one for 229 USD after a 20 dollar rebate). I don't know how the prices correlate where you are though....

See

Thing is even though the 760 is good, its gonna start to show its age soon, you can get a lesser i5(Last model maybe before the 4690) and a better card if you like, might be better off.

R9 290 would also be too expensive for my budget. It costs ~ $550 in my region...

Damn yeah thats quite a bit more, you will be fine with the 760, just don't expect to max all games going forward from now, most will do great on high for the next year or two, then you might have to drop some settings depending. Anyways hope it all works out, build looks good though.

Yeah, i know, i was just looking for a better alternative for the same price, but can't find any. I could change it in a year or two, it's not a problem, i just moved to a new apartment, that's why my budget is so limited, but i can't delay on getting a PC untill i'll afford a better GPU cause i'm using a 10 inch netbook atm, and not being able to play anything is just driving me nuts

I'm about to do the same thing, build a new PC and move into a new apartment, can be rough at first yeah, luckily I have some of the parts, just need a Mobo/GPU/CPU/PSU/Case, gonna do a 290 build myself, gonna be interesting since I usually went with Nvidia, gonna get the same processor though as you, unless a crazy i7 deal appears(Not better for gaming really, but better in general for other stuff I do...)

Hard to suggest something if we dont know how much other parts cost in your country, do you have there some pricewatch site?
What version this Palit is? JetStream is okey, good performance, quiet, little hotter than other cards with nonref coolers but nothing to bad. Dont worry Palit is not crap and you have warranty.
GTX 970 is much more powerful in games than 760.
If you have really tight budget:
take cheaper motherboard, even H81 will do(have SATA III, USB 3(most dont have USB 3 headers, check it if its important)).
take cheap 1600MHz ram, if these don't have heatsinks do not worry.
if needed take cheaper i5.

Yes it's good, you also need a CPU fan, for 20$ there is one good from Cooler Master. And a HDD if you don't have.

Edit: well Crucial has bad fame doing bad quality RAM, don't buy it, good brands for this are Kingston, Corsair, G.Skill, and as the guy above says a GTX 970 is a good idea, but if you have the money to buy it, and 1600Mhz is good too, but I don't think there will be any noticeable difference really.

Edit2: I would also get a Corsair 550W or 600W PSU instead of the Cooler Master, 550W is enought

The price difference is tiny so might as well get the extra juice, 1333 is outdated, has been for a long time.

I got my self 1866Mhz RAM with CL9, because it cost the same as 1600Mhz with CL9, see the case latency (CL) too, CL9 or less is better, but I don't really now if CL9 will be noticeably better than CL10.

I'm more worried about the Mhz than the latency when it comes to games. Should be fine with the Fury.

There is also a thing the voltage that RAM uses, if it's 1.5v is the standard, but some are 1.65v is fine for AMD, but not for Intel, motherboard BIOS will still underclock it to get 1.5v and you will eventually get 1333Mhz instead of 1600Mhz, happens sometimes, but you can change it on the motherboard options, so don't really worry about it.

1333Mhz CL9 = 1600MHz CL10 = 1866MHz CL11

It's not an exact rule but in general they're equivalent. Cas latency is important.

but you really do not need anymore then 1333 the difference you will not notice you will get maybe 1-2% more performance above that and that is on the high side

but it is your choice some people want it just to brag they have the best or better

but i would suggest a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus or Evo but Plus will do just fine

every thing else should be just fine i am still using a FX6300 and play games just fine so with that you should be well off with better fps and better over all performance

and the GPU is really nice mid-range choice along with pretty much everything else

i have the HAF 912 and it is a bit big but has a lot room and awesome air-flow for the price

though if you wanted small and portable you could get Min-Itx

though if it was me i would get the
EVGA 600 B 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified 600W Power Supply they are really good

either way enjoy your new rig and gaming

I am unsure if there is a real reason to get a cooler if he gets a none K CPU, those are mainly for keeping it cool enough while overclocking.

there are no Corsair PSU's available at local retailers in my country. buying from amazon or ebay would take about 1 month for delivery and i don't want to w8 so much. Are there any other manufacturers for PSU you'd recommend instead of it ? some available in my country are Antec, Chieftec, Cooler Master, Deepcool, Gembird, Inter-Tech...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well then Cooler Master since its a good brand too, others like Antec, Silverstone are too expensive for a budget PC, and cheaper brands are too bad to buy, you also need one 6-pin and one 8-pin for this GPU just check if PSU has the needed 2x 6pin+2 connectors, 6pin+2 means 8, but can be used as just 6.

Is Antec better ? Just askink cause 550W ANTEC VP550P V2 it's on the exact same price as Cooler Master ATX 600W, and it has 2 х 6+2-pin

Don't get the Antec VP, they're..Well, nothing I'd call decent. But the True Power Classic series (Also Antec) are very fine pieces of power supplies. Get one, if you can. As for the rest the GTX760 is overpriced as hell, as others have already stated.
You could (or: should!) switch the CPU from the 4690 to the either 4590 or the 4460 - no, you won't miss the extra 0,2ghz, only when benchmarking. The extra-money is well spent on either a better graphics card or a better PSU. As for the mainboard: The 4690 (or the 4590 etc.) don't allow overcloking, so the Z97-Chipset is useless anyway - go for a H97, same functionality minus the overclocking (For instance, the H97 D3H from Gigabyte would be a very well designed board) - and no, cheaper mainboards and chipsets don't lack quality, that's marketing to sell those stupid $200+ boards nobody actually needs in most cases. The fury RAMs are overpriced, just take some 1600's (the cheapest will mostly do, crucial ballistix are great)
You could also save a little on the case there if you step down to a Coolermaster N400 or something. Fix that and there's a better graphics card in the budget. Consider a R9 290 for similar performance to the GTX970 - comes at a cheaper price, but has higher power draw. The True Power 550W Classic from Antec is able to handle any of those cards perfectly anyway.

Sorry for stealing the topic, but what do You think about this? I'm going to buy a PC next year and I'd like to practice making builds. I probably won't buy this one, but well, what would be the best PC that I could get for 900€ form 1a?

Btw i will take an SSD and a better PSU (XFX, SEASONIC, ANTEC)

I think you misunderstood me (and that my english sucks hard :C)

When i say "it makes no sens plan a build now" i don't mean choose a specific cpu, vga, etc...
I mean planning a generic build is useless.

e.g. atm 8 gb ram are enough, tomorrow could be a bit tiny, atm 2gb vga are enough, tomorrow may be not enough, basically i want to say that technology will change a lot in a year :P

Well, You probably got my wrong again :D

All I wanted to do is to try building something. I know that technology will change a lot, that's why I don't buy this exact PC. Like 4 months ago I knew nothing about building PC. Now I know a little bit more. Basically, I want to make PC building clear to me, so I could buy best value-performance PC next year :)

Yeah between those two cards its a decent time to build a PC...thats why I am doing it now, Nvidia releasing the 970 made the 290's shoot down in price, friend just got one for 230 USD, I was tempted but want to buy everything at once and not stare at the card for a month lmao....
